\n Lewis Capaldi<\/a> says that he is taking antipsychotic medication<\/a> and that it has changed his life.\n <\/p>\n

\n The Scottish singer stepped away from the public eye following a difficult performance at the Glastonbury Festival in the summer of 2023.\n <\/p>\n

\n His fans stepped in to help him finish hit song \u201cSomeone You Loved\u201d during that performance as he appeared to struggle on stage.\n <\/p>\n

\n Capaldi returned to the hugely popular British festival last month and is embarking on a sold out tour of the UK and Ireland in September, followed by a series of dates in Australia and New Zealand.\n <\/p>\n

\n The 28-year-old singer-songwriter opened up about his mental health struggles in an interview with Theo Von on YouTube<\/a>.\n <\/p>\n

\n Speaking on the comedian\u2019s podcast \u201cThis Past Weekend,\u201d Capaldi said he\u2019d had \u201ca breakdown of sorts on stage\u201d at the festival two years ago.\n <\/p>\n

\n He revealed that an initial prescription for antidepressants made him feel \u201cnumb,\u201d while coming off them made him feel \u201creally low.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n The shift to antipsychotic medication made all the difference, he said.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cIt was really scary when they offered it up,\u201d he said, adding that he questioned the prescription, saying: \u201cI\u2019m not psychotic.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n He said he takes aripiprazole, which is known to be a treatment for Tourette\u2019s Syndrome, as well as other conditions like bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cIt\u2019s changed my life,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s genuinely been a massive, massive help.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n He said he\u2019s been having therapy and that he\u2019s also made other lifestyle changes: he has cut back on drink, changed his diet and taken up exercise, revealing that he has lost about 28 pounds since January.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cMy anxiety levels are so low these days,\u201d he said. \u201cI don\u2019t feel as stressed. I don\u2019t know if it\u2019s all related to this (the antipsychotics) or other choices \u2013 I guess it\u2019s an amalgamation of things.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n The performance at Glastonbury in 2023 was \u201cthe lowest moment of my life,\u201d Capaldi said, adding: \u201cI had this moment where I was on stage, like two, three songs in, (thinking) this is the last time I\u2019m going to play a gig for a long time. I need to try and get through the rest of the show but when I come off I\u2019m done.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n That decision, he said, left him feeling like a \u201cweight had been lifted.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n There had been a similar episode several weeks earlier in Chicago, which he said was \u201cway worse.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cI couldn\u2019t come back on stage and finish the song and I was backstage convulsing and having this crazy panic attack,\u201d he said.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cIn a weird way it\u2019s probably the best thing that\u2019s ever happened to me, that moment at Glastonbury in 2023, because\u2026 I wouldn\u2019t have stopped otherwise.\u201d\n <\/p>\n
