\u201cAll of us were feeling for him and feeling the way he felt. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt was an awful feeling on the sideline when the ball was going up because I could feel the tenseness and the nerves going through Sav himself.<\/p>\n
\u201cI had to do him a favour because he\u2019s a tough kid and he wasn\u2019t going to be asking to come off, but he will persevere.\u201d<\/p>\n

The question about his decision to bench Tamale prompted Stuart to talk more broadly about the challenges of developing young players in the NRL.<\/p>\n
He explained that inconsistency and poor performances will be a natural part of their progression and that the club remains committed to backing their emerging talent as they go through the highs and lows.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s a lot of these young kids and again I\u2019ll repeat myself, they\u2019ve got to start somewhere, and they\u2019re starting with us,\u201d Stuart continued.<\/p>\n
\u201cSome of them are at the moment just finding a little bit of a lull in their season because we\u2019re halfway through and I\u2019ve always learned that loyalty is a very, very important factor as a coach, but also can\u2019t be blind loyal.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s a number of those boys out there who are not at the stage of where their games are going to get. <\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s a little bit of lull and that\u2019s what happens and when you\u2019re developing, we can\u2019t have it both ways. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe can\u2019t be looking at the future with all the younger players we have got and then wanting to get rid of them and then say we want to go out and buy all experienced players.<\/p>\n

He then reiterated that the Green Machine\u2019s long-term strategy has been built on developing homegrown talent rather than relying on marquee players\u2019 signatures, and it will remain so.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe can\u2019t get marquee players here, so we\u2019ve made the decision to go down the path of making and creating our own marquee players and over the years, some of these young players will be our marquee players,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey\u2019ll be the next Joe Tapine, but there\u2019s always going to be some pain before the success and at the moment we\u2019re going through some pain. <\/p>\n
