When the KPMG Women\u2019s PGA Championship was last played at Hazeltine National in 2019, Hannah Green took home a first-place prize money payout of $577,500 from an overall purse of $3.85 million.<\/p>\n
On Monday, officials with KPMG, the PGA of America and LPGA proudly announced this week\u2019s purse for the KPMG Women\u2019s PGA Championship would be $13 million, more than triple Hazeltine\u2019s previous amount and the highest for any women\u2019s golf tournament in history. The winner will receive $1.95 million.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen this came across my desk with the option of what we wanted this to look like, it was such an easy decision to lean into a record-breaking purse,\u201d Tim Walsh, the KPMG U.S. chair and CEO, told Golf Digest. \u201cWe\u2019re so supportive if this event. We\u2019re so proud of our association with this event and all that comes from it. We\u2019ve been doing the sponsorship for 12 years. When we started, the purse was $2 million, now $13 million. That\u2019s almost a 500 percent increase in supporting that purse which supports these incredible female athletes. I\u2019m so proud to do that in partnership with PGA of America and the LPGA Tour.\u201d<\/p>\n
The amount jumps past the previous mark of $12.5 million which the USGA offered last month at the U.S. Women\u2019s Open at Riviera Country Club.<\/p>\n
As Walsh alluded to, the championship has seen an impressive increase in prize money over the last decade-plus:<\/p>\n
