Oscar Piastri<\/a> has been allowed to keep his fourth-place finish in the Austrian Grand Prix after F1<\/a> stewards decided not to take further action following an investigation. Piastri finished fourth after starting the race seventh, after overtaking Ferrari duo Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc.<\/p>\n

But the Aussie was at the centre of a post-race investigation and summoned to the stewards for allegedly driving too slowly during his reconnaissance laps. Under F1 rules, there\u2019s a time limit that drivers cannot exceed after leaving the pit lane and moving to their assigned positions on the grid before the race.<\/p>\n

Stewards initially believed that Piastri had breached the rule, and it had the potential for the Aussie to face post-race penalties which could have changed the final result. But the FIA opted not to take action against Piastri and found he didn\u2019t actually breach the rule.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe stewards heard from the driver of Car 81, team representative and reviewed video, timing in-car video evidence,\u201d the FIA said in a statement. “After reviewing the video footage it was evident that the car was well within the specified delta time. Therefore the stewards take no further action.<\/p>\n

“Competitors are reminded that they have the right to appeal certain decisions of the stewards, in accordance with Article 15 of the FIA International Sporting Code and Chapter 5 of the FIA Judicial and Disciplinary Rules, within the applicable time limits. “Decisions of the stewards are taken independently of the FIA and are based solely on the relevant regulations, guidelines and evidence presented.”<\/p>\n

George Russell ended his 112-day wait for a race victory, with Max Verstappen second and Kimi Antonelli third to maintain his overall championship lead. Leclerc and Hamilton had started the race second and third respectively, but Piastri overtook them both in an excellent drive.<\/p>\n

“I think it was a bit of a surprise that the Ferraris were not stronger, but on a personal level I thought it was a really good race,\u201d Piastri said. “I think it was again a positive we’re able to beat Ferrari \u2013 we’ve still got a lot to find to catch Mercedes and now Red Bull look very quick as well, so it’s going to be a constantly changing order, I think.”<\/p>\n

The result moves Piastri up to fourth in the championship, one point ahead of Leclerc and teammate Lando Norris.
