Mapping out the offensive and defensive profiles of each club, teams who rank in the top six for points for and points against, have won 19 of the last 21 AFL premierships.<\/p>\n
By extension, the only two teams in the last two decades that haven\u2019t ranked inside the premiership window have still ranked inside the top six for defence; meaning no team in the aforementioned period has ever won a flag with a defence ranked seventh or lower in the league come the end of the home-and-away season.<\/p>\n
So, heading into the final two months of the home-and-away season, who currently sits inside the prized zone?<\/p>\n

Also above the all-important top six line for defence sit Collingwood, Adelaide and \u2014 perhaps surprisingly \u2014 Port Adelaide, who by multiple metrics, may be the best 15th-ranked side on the ladder in recent memory.<\/p>\n

The Power are all but ruled out of a wildcard qualification given their 5-10 win-loss record at present, however the Magpies and Crows can take solace in their profiles behind the ball for the time being.<\/p>\n
Others generic premiership contenders right now include Hawthorn and two-time reigning premiers Brisbane; who\u2019s defensive profile is damning with a rank of 14th out of 18 in the league.<\/p>\n
