BENGALURU, June \u206030 (Reuters) – Indian fintech firm Cashfree Payments plans to deepen its \u2060cross-border business with offerings such as overseas investment and travel \u200cpayments as it seeks to tap rising demand for international transactions, CEO Akash Sinha said on Monday.<\/p>\n
Cashfree, backed by State Bank of India, the country’s largest lender, currently \u200bfacilitates cross-border e-commerce payments.<\/p>\n
It plans to begin pilots \u2060this year for overseas \u2060investment, travel and business-to-business payment services, expanding beyond online shopping, Sinha told \u2060Reuters \u200cin an interview.<\/p>\n
“Cross-border is an exciting space…the market is not a challenge. It’s a growing market,” Sinha said, attributing the \u2060opportunity to India’s increasing integration with the global economy \u200bthrough trade agreements.<\/p>\n
“It’s \u200cmore about how do we crack it. Can we build \u2060the right product? \u200bCan we make a compliant product? Those are the challenges.”<\/p>\n
Indian payment firms have stepped up their focus on cross-border services as outbound travel, overseas education, \u2060investments and global trade gather pace.<\/p>\n
Unlike domestic \u200bpayment processing, where intense competition has squeezed pricing, cross-border transactions typically offer better margins because they involve foreign exchange and additional regulatory compliance.<\/p>\n
Sinha said \u2060Cashfree aims to build payment infrastructure that makes cross-border transactions smoother, cheaper and operationally hassle-free for consumers and businesses.<\/p>\n
Cashfree, which has a cross-border payments aggregator licence from India’s financial regulator, expects the business to contribute \u200b25% of revenue within three to four \u2060years, up from 10% currently.<\/p>\n
It reported revenue of nearly 10 billion rupees ($105.7 \u200bmillion) in financial year 2026.<\/p>\n
The firm, founded \u200cin 2015, processes transactions worth $80 billion annually \u200bfor more than 1 million businesses, according to its website.<\/p>\n
