{"id":772785,"date":"2026-07-01T20:16:09","date_gmt":"2026-07-01T20:16:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/772785\/"},"modified":"2026-07-01T20:16:09","modified_gmt":"2026-07-01T20:16:09","slug":"alijah-martin-signs-two-year-deal-with-toronto-raptors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/772785\/","title":{"rendered":"Alijah Martin signs two-year deal with Toronto Raptors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former Gator Alijah Martin signs a two-year, $4.8 million contract, returning to the Toronto Raptors, per ESPN\u2019s Shams Charania.<\/p>\n<p spellcheck=\"false\">Martin\u2019s deal is the newest move the Raptors made this offseason, as they also traded for Kawhi Leonard, who led Toronto to its first NBA championship in 2019, on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>In his rookie season, Martin saw limited time with the Raptors as he was under a two-way contract, appearing in 23 games and averaging 6.3 minutes and 2.2 points per game. The 6-foot-2 guard spent some time with Raptors 905, Toronto\u2019s G League affiliate, where he made 14 appearances, averaging 18.7 points per game on 49.7% from the field and 41.8% from beyond the arc.<\/p>\n<p>Martin was recognized for his productivity in the G League, as he competed for Team Austin in the NBA\u2019s Rising Stars Game during the 2026 NBA All-Star weekend in Los Angeles. He logged 6 points, four rebounds and three assists.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Raptors selected Martin in the 2025 NBA Draft with the No. 39 pick after the Summitt, Mississippi, native was an integral part of Florida\u2019s 2025 national championship run.<\/p>\n<p>Alongside Walter Clayton Jr. and Will Richard, Martin was the final piece of Florida\u2019s backcourt trio that took the NCAA by storm during the 2024-25 season. He finished the campaign averaging 14.4 points per game.<\/p>\n<p>Before Florida, Martin spent four seasons at Florida Atlantic, where he was part of the program&#8217;s run to the Final Four during the 2023 NCAA Tournament. He averaged 13.4 points per game during the 2022-23 season and logged 26 points against San Diego State in the Final Four.<\/p>\n<p>With a multi-year deal, Martin will look to prove himself at the professional level and could potentially be part of the Raptors&#8217; Summer League team, which would allow the former Gator to showcase his skill set.<\/p>\n<p>Contact Jeffrey Serber at Jserber@alligator.org.
