Image: Supplied <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.supercheapauto.com.au\/catalogue-out-now\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1036058 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/SCA-1196-Wk1-Cat-BPO-Speedcafe_728x90.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"728\" height=\"90\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/speedcafe.com\/supercars-news-2026-darwin-triple-crown-nascar-ford-gm-toyota-shane-howard-mark-pejic\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">As recently revealed by Speedcafe<\/a>, Supercars wants to bring a selection of stock cars Down Under for exhibition races on Australian soil.<\/p>\n<p>Supercars chiefs travelled to the US in May hoping to secure a six-car demo for the Gold Coast 500, featuring retired stars.<\/p>\n<p>While complications resulting from the timing of NASCAR\u2019s Chase are believed to have scuppered the plan for 2026, Supercars hasn\u2019t given up on the concept entirely.<\/p>\n<p>The Adelaide Grand Final is now seen as the only option for such a showcase, as it is the sole Supercars event that sits outside the gruelling 36-race NASCAR season.<\/p>\n<p>Although not on the cards for this year, Adelaide Grand Final boss Mark Warren confirmed an approach from Supercars about the concept.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have talked with Supercars about what they are looking to do in terms of having some sort of NASCAR match racing,\u201d Warren told Speedcafe.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat is of interest. We\u2019ve just got to figure out, will it fit into the overall program? Is it something fans really want to see?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that if we can get the top drivers out of NASCAR to come over here and actually do some proper match racing, I think that would be really cool.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHaving Shane van Gisbergen, for example, come back and go head-to-head with some others. How good would that be?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cObviously the BP Adelaide Grand Final would be the best option to try and achieve that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/speedcafe.com\/supercars-news-2026-darwin-triple-crown-nascar-ford-gm-toyota-shane-howard-mark-pejic\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Supercars chasing NASCAR demo race on Australian soil<\/a><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>The \u2018match racing\u2019 concept is based around hosting an even split of cars from Ford, Chevrolet and Toyota, which each compete in both series.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMatch racing is very much that head-to-head, where you\u2019ve got pairs of cars,\u201d added Warren. \u201cIt is actually racing, it\u2019s not just an exhibition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Warren noted the funding model would also need to stack up to make a NASCAR showcase viable for the event, but is keen to explore the concept further.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know there\u2019s a lot more closeness now between Supercars and NASCAR,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey are collaborating more on a technical level, so I think they want to see more collaboration on the sporting level.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we can be part of that, we\u2019ll be very open to it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Adelaide last year hosted NASCAR Cup Series driver Austin Cindric as a wildcard entrant with Tickford Racing.<\/p>\n<p>Chevrolet drivers had also been linked to possible wildcards in each of the last two years, with the manufacturer again flagging interest for this November.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Marcos Ambrose demonstrating NASCAR machinery at the 2019 Adelaide 500.
