To celebrate, we\u2019ve rounded up our top picks of Design Speaks Weekly podcasts that tap into First Nations knowledge in the built environment.<\/p>\n<p>In this episode, Australian Institute of Architects Gold Medallist Gregory Burgess AM, of Gregory Burgess Architects, reflects on the role and responsibilities of an architect, particularly when working with First Nations communities. Reflecting on more than five decades in practice, he shares the values and pioneering spirit of co-design that have guided his remarkable career.<\/p>\n<p>Alison Page, a Walbanga and Wadi Wadi woman and a leading design entrepreneur, has a portfolio that includes collaborations with Indigenous designers from the Merrima Aboriginal Design Unit. Having founded the National Aboriginal Design Agency, Page has helped bring First Nations knowledge and culture into contemporary Australian design. In this episode, she discusses the growing interest in Indigenous design \u2013 and the opportunities and complexities it brings.<\/p>\n<p>Sarah Lynn Rees is a Palawa woman descending from the Plangermaireener and Trawlwoolwaypeoples of north-east Lutruwita\/Tasmania, and an associate principal at Jackson Clements Burrows. She has been a prominent advocate for Indigenising the built environment, leading systemic reform of the National Standard of Competency for Architects (NSCA) to require practitioners to demonstrate a level of understanding of culture, Country and Indigenous engagement processes. In this episode, Lynn Rees speaks on how her activism is being realised in project conception, procurement and delivery.<\/p>\n<p>Brisbane-based architect and principal at BVN Architecture Kevin O\u2019Brien has led a storied career over the past 30 years, becoming a leader in Designing with Country approaches, and a mentor for young First Nations graduates and architects. In this episode, he reflects on the evolution of his work and discusses what the growing number of Indigenous architects means for the profession.<\/p>\n<p>Carroll Go-Sam (Dyirbal, Gumbilbara Bama) is a senior lecturer at the School of Architecture, Design and Planning at the University of Queensland, and Deidre Brown (Ng\u0101puhi, Ng\u0101ti Kahu) is a professor of architecture at the University of Auckland and the recipient of the 2023 Te K\u0101hui Whaihanga New Zealand Institute of Architects\u2019 Gold Medal.
