Tennis icon Martina Navratilova has never shied away from expressing her views about President Donald Trump<\/a>. Following his recent summit with Vladimir Putin<\/a> in Alaska, she ramped up her criticism to unprecedented levels on social media.<\/p>\n

Trump met the Russian president at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson on August 15 in an attempt to negotiate a peace deal concerning the Ukraine<\/a> conflict. The meeting ended without any breakthrough; instead, Trump seemed to endorse Putin’s suggestion for a follow-up encounter in Moscow, before dodging reporters’ questions whilst cameras captured his exit.<\/p>\n

The 18-time Grand Slam champion and one of sports’ most vocal personalities, who recently delivered a harsh critique of Robert F. Kennedy Jr , posted on X: “The body language of a beaten man…” responding to video of Trump exiting the venue.<\/p>\n

Navratilova seemed prepared for the backlash, responding to users with immediate replies.<\/p>\n

When a supporter backed Trump by saying: “He’s trying to end a war; he doesn’t need to meet Putin,” Navratilova shot back with just one word: “Sure.”<\/p>\n

When another detractor claimed she was backing Putin, she replied just as bluntly: “That would be your party, republicans. You got it all backwards.”<\/p>\n

The debate escalated as her timeline became swamped with disputes, but Navratilova stood firm.<\/p>\n

She later doubled down on her stance with an even sharper message branding Trump as “weak” and “a wimp.”<\/p>\n

These criticisms come amidst increasing scepticism about Trump’s diplomatic strategy domestically. A report from the Pew Research Centre, released earlier this month, showed a 20 percent decrease in public faith in his ability to negotiate international agreements since he took office again in January.<\/p>\n

His acceptance of Putin’s invitation for a meeting in Moscow did little to allay public concerns. Navratilova didn’t confine her criticism to Trump’s body language.<\/p>\n

She posted a series of tweets criticising Trump’s policies, including spending on mass deportations, and revived a campaign pledge from his first term to abstain from new foreign business ventures.<\/p>\n

Recent reports indicate that the Trump family is now profiting from at least five projects in the Persian Gulf, casting doubt on their previous commitments.<\/p>\n
