Meanwhile, Scott said the club\u2019s management of Gryan Miers was \u201ccomplicated\u201d in its bid to get him back to his best after the Cats star\u2019s curious absence following a partially torn ACL in his right knee.<\/p>\n
Miers returned from a five-week lay-off in Round 10 before being rested a month later and playing one VFL game since.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s good enough to play, but it is a complicated one and too complicated for me to explain properly in this forum,\u201d Scott said<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s just been such a good player for us and really important to the way we play. For one reason or another, he hasn\u2019t quite been at that level.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo we\u2019re thinking about how we can get him back to that level. There are things I won\u2019t talk about publicly around what we\u2019re thinking, but he\u2019s very much in our plans.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s not that dissimilar to Jeremy, really good players go through flat spots and they\u2019ve got to find a way to work their way through and our role is to help them as much as possible with that. <\/p>\n

It came after Geelong was rarely leaky in Thursday night\u2019s game including conceding eight goals to Brisbane in the first term to see the hosts trail by as much as 43 points. <\/p>\n
That proved a bridge too far for Scott\u2019s men to overcome, despite fighting their way back into the game, with the Geelong coach lamenting the way they \u201cfed\u201d Brisbane\u2019s game.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was a really strange game. To give up eight goals in the first quarter was obviously disappointing. We fed their game way too much,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey were able to score from out turnovers in the back half, which is a bit uncharacteristic.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut made even worse when you go in understanding if you give them goals, they\u2019re going to kick some goals that are hard to stop anyway.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat combination is the way it played out early. They really took their chances, too, their kicking for goal was really good, ours was poor.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was a strange game in that, I don\u2019t know the numbers, but probably for more than 50 per cent we were in control of it. <\/p>\n
\u201cAnd either couldn\u2019t take our chances when we generated them, or allowed them back into the game with some basic errors.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Cats have now dropped four of their last five games to get leapfrogged by Brisbane in the top four. <\/p>\n
While Geelong is still in the premiership hunt, it could drop to as low as eighth by the end of the round, pending other results.<\/p>\n
But Scott wasn\u2019t getting too caught up in his side\u2019s form line after a tough run including narrow losses to Fremantle, Adelaide and an improved Carlton.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think the fixture is quirky. I think most in the media are good enough to have a look at what those games actually were… context is important,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut we still think we\u2019re going well enough to beat anyone, anywhere.\u201d<\/p>\n
Scott added that he \u201ccame to the conclusion a long time ago that looking at the ladder is a bad idea\u201d because it\u2019s \u201cstrange\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou can\u2019t focus on the next month or two, because some teams have good draws, other teams don\u2019t,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
\u201cAs I\u2019ve said a number of times I wish it wasn\u2019t this way. And some people push back on this idea that, gee luck plays a role in the game these days.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou could play one team twice just when they\u2019re going horribly, and it\u2019s like, that\u2019s just luck. Or you can run into some hot teams who have been a bit up and down.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s just not the way we think about it. If we should have won four or five in a row \u2014 especially games we think we probably should\u2019ve won \u2014 we wouldn\u2019t be sitting here going: \u2018That means we\u2019re flying\u2019.<\/p>\n
