{"id":775980,"date":"2026-07-03T07:17:14","date_gmt":"2026-07-03T07:17:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/775980\/"},"modified":"2026-07-03T07:17:14","modified_gmt":"2026-07-03T07:17:14","slug":"sophie-delezio-interview-her-return-to-social-media-after-abrupt-break","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/775980\/","title":{"rendered":"Sophie Delezio interview: Her return to social media after abrupt break"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nine.com.au\/lifestyle\/sophie-delezio-baby-ptsd-during-childbirth-son-frankie-operating-theatre-20251127-p5qrph.html\" class=\"sc-jNzrEP eIMCEl\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sophie Delezio<\/a> is back on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nine.com.au\/topic\/social-media-621\" class=\"sc-jNzrEP eIMCEl\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">social media<\/a> after taking a much-needed break almost a year ago. <\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nine.com.au\/lifestyle\/sophie-delezio-married-to-joseph-salerno-wedding-details-hunter-valley-20250414-p5qq1r.html\" class=\"sc-jNzrEP eIMCEl\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">newlywed<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nine.com.au\/lifestyle\/family-relationships\/parenting\/parenting-advice-how-to-switch-off-comparisons-20260702-p60buw.html\" class=\"sc-jNzrEP eIMCEl\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">new mum<\/a> struggled with the negativity that can come with choosing to share her life publicly \u2013 as she puts it, being \u201cyelled back into a hole\u201d \u2013 and the pressure she placed on herself to be perfect in every way.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/d65a5b7fb9745625b5a81abba72c8bddc5410e7d205452136eb0a6c92e8f73f1.jpeg\"  width=\"100%\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"_0b53bae146db0b62 _7475dd3391ee1518\" style=\"--text-color:var(--color-text-secondary)\">Sophie Delezio stepped away from social media after struggling with the negativity of a public platform.\u00a0@soph.delezio<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI got so burnt out &#8230; I just needed some time to rest and give myself that leave,\u201d she told nine.com.au. <\/p>\n<p>Today, Delezio has returned to her social platforms with a new perspective and a project she hopes will help <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nine.com.au\/lifestyle\/family-relationships\/parenting\/fatherhood-stereotype-incompetent-tv-dad-phil-dunphy-homer-simpson-20260625-p609xg.html\" class=\"sc-jNzrEP eIMCEl\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">parents of young children<\/a> navigate the tricky first few years.<\/p>\n<p>Surviving against the odds<\/p>\n<p>Delezio was two when she first made headlines in December 2003 when a car crashed into her day care centre. She was trapped under the burning car, resulting in third-degree burns to 85 per cent of her body. She was in hospital for almost a year and lost both her legs below the knee, her right hand, and an ear.<\/p>\n<p>In 2006, she was left badly injured once again when she was hit by a car while crossing a road in a wheelchair, accompanied by her nanny and her service dog Tara. Delezio was thrown 18 metres and suffered a heart attack, a broken jaw and shoulder, bruising to her head, numerous rib fractures and a tear to her left lung.<\/p>\n<p>She recovered once again, and Australia has cheered her on ever since.<\/p>\n<p>Reflecting on her childhood, Delezio has found peace in choosing to focus on her blessings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am forever grateful for the journey because it has brought the most amazing people into my life. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/289b6c7419dfb02c5d0676700c64bbf74fdfc652fc23322d7f4007e31338ae8d.jpeg\"  width=\"100%\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"_0b53bae146db0b62 _7475dd3391ee1518\" style=\"--text-color:var(--color-text-secondary)\">Delezio has now returned to her social platforms, sharing snapshots of her life as a young mum.\u00a0Instagram\/@soph.delezio<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI could never go back and say \u2018I wish it never happened\u2019 because I was wishing my whole life away. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI could never do that because I love my life now. It comes with its challenges, but so does everyone else\u2019s life. No one\u2019s challenge is greater than the other. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo I just am so grateful for the love and support, people encouraging me, and the advocacy of people with disabilities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Delezio married her long-time partner and childhood sweetheart Joseph Salerno on April 12, 2025. They exchanged vows in a ceremony at the heritage-listed Anambah House in the Hunter Valley, New South Wales.<\/p>\n<p>They welcomed their first child, son Frankie, who is almost one, seven months earlier in September 2024.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\" \" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/f4a987c0bdacf9ba8483aaa762cea4c4fcd838f3ebcc8ab7f5da0e12432c3bd3.jpeg\"  width=\"100%\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"_0b53bae146db0b62 _7475dd3391ee1518\" style=\"--text-color:var(--color-text-secondary)\">Delezio married her childhood sweetheart, Joseph Salerno in April last year.\u00a0Instagram\/@soph.delezio<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\" \" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/e4ee411460f5994c7cf8cb5754f7ed71e44da7364a768cf211f27dfd757da8e6.jpeg\"  width=\"100%\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"_0b53bae146db0b62 _7475dd3391ee1518\" style=\"--text-color:var(--color-text-secondary)\">The couple are parents to son Frankie.\u00a0Instagram\/@soph.delezio<\/p>\n<p>Delezio is the first to admit she didn\u2019t always accept as much help as she needed along the way, a challenge many new parents share.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHonestly, I probably don\u2019t balance it as well as I should. It\u2019s definitely a juggle,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think a lot of parents would agree to this &#8230; we\u2019re always going to try and be the best version of ourselves for our kids and our own health be damned sometimes. It\u2019s just a bit of a process for that.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are days when I\u2019m incredibly grateful to have the most amazing parents and in-laws and family around and friends who always volunteer to help.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know I need to accept help. And just because I\u2019m living differently, doesn\u2019t mean no one else feels it. We all feel that to some extent. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe all push our own health aside for the sake of our kids. We all need to accept more help than we do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/7135b2b1b42790cd90c26b96e51fa7441539eeab96cb6bfb3aa100d7e543ff5e.jpeg\"  width=\"100%\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"_0b53bae146db0b62 _7475dd3391ee1518\" style=\"--text-color:var(--color-text-secondary)\">&#8220;We\u2019re always going to try and be the best version of ourselves for our kids and our own health be damned sometimes.&#8221;\u00a0Instagram\/@soph.delezio<\/p>\n<p>A much-needed break<\/p>\n<p>Delezio happily began posting content about her new life as a mum, but even she wasn\u2019t safe from the negativity that can come with sharing one\u2019s life online.<\/p>\n<p>She abruptly stopped posting online in June 2025.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been literally a year. [Frankie] was almost one by that point, but I just needed a little break,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just needed some time to work on some projects that were up and coming. I was already in talks for this podcast &#8230; I just wanted to kind of clear my head, go back with a clean slate and start fresh.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think with social media, it\u2019s really hard to address when you need a break, and I\u2019m going to try and be open and honest with that. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI find a lot of new mums, they have that experience. They show up earnestly and honestly, and just get yelled back into a hole.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe pressure you put on yourself is ridiculous, and I got so burnt out because I felt that nothing was ever good enough, whether it was in the editing process or the filming process.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\" \" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/25e94191129c01d19223acd60823d7473dd258ccffc86b6c1d2fdf0f709c0c22.jpeg\"  width=\"100%\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"_0b53bae146db0b62 _7475dd3391ee1518\" style=\"--text-color:var(--color-text-secondary)\">Delezio stepped back from her online presence to clear her head.\u00a0Instagram\/@soph.delezio<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was so caught up with \u2018how are people going to perceive this? What are they going to say? What are the comments going to be?\u2019 And that just got to me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlso the line between my family life and my work life got a bit blurred, and we do keep my son out of social media.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just needed some time to rest and give myself that leave. Hopefully by sharing my journey, and finding that level of self-care, I can go about it in a way that encourages others to do the same.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>New projects<\/p>\n<p>Now she\u2019s back online, Delezio is \u201cso excited to work with some amazing brands\u201d and \u201cgive people some honest feedback on living with a disability\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Her latest project is a podcast called <a href=\"https:\/\/kidshealthexplained.podbean.com\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"sc-jNzrEP eIMCEl\">Kids\u2019 Health Explained<\/a> for\u00a0the Sydney Children\u2019s Hospitals Network (SCHN).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\" \" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/fa4256d387e8b7e4a51400fafd608f7aa3aa1bec8bc9c918c2e2ce4b5cf29e57.jpeg\"  width=\"100%\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"_0b53bae146db0b62 _7475dd3391ee1518\" style=\"--text-color:var(--color-text-secondary)\">Delezio is working on a podcast called Kids\u2019 Health Explained.\u00a0Instagram\/@soph.delezio<\/p>\n<p>While she is excited to share helpful information for parents, the project had its challenges for Delezio \u2013 including walking back onto hospital grounds after having spent so much of her young life in them, and seeing so many children suffering from various ailments at a similar age to when she did.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSeeing the parents and the patients, that gets me every time. I think I am able to disassociate because my accidents were just so random. There was no predicting it, they just happened,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t want to be pitying them. I never liked to feel it as a kid. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are always going to be things that you want to change about your life, but you never want to take away certain things. My parents had the choice to turn my machines off, but they didn\u2019t. And I\u2019m so grateful for that. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just want to approach them with kindness, and credit where credit\u2019s due, they are so strong. Everyone who\u2019s been in the hospital, everyone who works at the hospital as well, they\u2019re all superhumans.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The first season launches next week and is available wherever you get your podcasts. Delezio said each episode features a discussion of various topics, covering why a child might end up in the hospital system.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s just so many topics and they give advice in a clear and honest way that is simple for an everyday parent to understand. Having that information is so valuable as a parent. I wish I\u2019d had it,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe haven\u2019t dived into topics relating to my accidents just yet, but stay tuned for season two.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Sophie Delezio is back on social media after taking a much-needed break almost a year ago.
