\u201cHe\u2019s got to get into a big fight soon,\u201d Algieri said on Inside Boxing. \u201cHe\u2019s got to unify.\u201d<\/p>\n

Canobbio echoed that sentiment, arguing Carrington\u2019s resume still lacks the signature victory expected of a world champion.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s starting to get a little stale,\u201d Canobbio said. \u201cWhen is he going to fight someone? When\u2019s he going to be in that big fight?\u201d<\/p>\n

Carrington captured the WBC featherweight title with a stoppage of Carlos Castro, but since then he has yet to face one of the division\u2019s other champions. Rafael Espinoza, Angelo Leo and Brandon Figueroa all hold major titles in one of boxing\u2019s deepest weight classes.<\/p>\n

Algieri doesn\u2019t blame Carrington for the lack of marquee opponents.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s calling out everybody,\u201d he said, pointing instead to the promotional politics that often prevent the biggest fights from being made. He suggested Carrington may eventually have to sacrifice negotiating leverage if he wants to force a unification.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s got to take the lesser money,\u201d Algieri said. \u201cHe\u2019s got to be the underdog. He\u2019s got to come in and just say, \u2018Listen, I\u2019m going to beat you. Just get me there.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Carrington enters Saturday\u2019s defense as a heavy favorite over Palacios, but another routine victory is unlikely to silence the growing calls for him to face one of the division\u2019s elite champions.<\/p>\n

At 29 years old, the unbeaten New Yorker appears to have little left to prove against fringe contenders.
