That makes it all the more important to balance proven success with projections ahead of the coming season.

I ranked all 32 NFL head coaches. Every coach was graded on a 1-10 scale in five categories: identity/culture, schematic edge, player development, roster situation, and my confidence level in the team entering 2026. The total score created the ranking — and career winning percentage was used as the tiebreaker when needed. Let’s not waste any more time; here’s the full list from No. 32 to No. 1:

32. Mike LaFleur, Arizona Cardinals<img class="gnt_em_img_i" style="height:441px" fetchpriority="high" data-g-r="lazy" data-gl-src="https://www.newsbeep.com/au/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/90794743007-2280760425.jpg" data-gl- decoding="async" alt="TEMPE, ARIZONA - JUNE 09: Head coach Mike LaFleur of the Arizona Cardinals during the mandatory minicamp at Dignity Health Arizona Cardinals Training Center on June 09, 2026 in Tempe, Arizona. He has offensive experience, but Arizona’s situation makes this one of the toughest jobs in the league entering 2026. Will Jacoby Brissett pan out as a bridge quarterback? Will Carson Beck get a shot? I’m not even sure that LaFleur knows as of this moment.

31. Jeff Hafley, Miami Dolphins<img class="gnt_em_img_i" style="height:517px" fetchpriority="high" data-g-r="lazy" data-gl-src="https://www.newsbeep.com/au/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/90794778007-usatsi-29119573.jpg" data-gl- decoding="async" alt="Jun 2, 2026; Miami Gardens, FL, USA; Miami Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley watches mini camp with defensive quality control Coach Siriki Diabate at Baptist Health Training Complex. Still, there are many questions about talent on the roster and overall projection, which keeps him near the bottom of the barrel entering 2026.

30. Todd Monken, Cleveland Browns<img class="gnt_em_img_i" style="height:441px" fetchpriority="high" data-g-r="lazy" data-gl-src="https://www.newsbeep.com/au/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/90794780007-usatsi-29160897.jpg" data-gl- decoding="async" alt="Jun 9, 2026; Berea, OH, USA; Cleveland Browns head coach Todd Monken reacts to a play during mandatory mini camp at Cross Country Mortgage Campus. The two main questions are whether his success in Baltimore can translate to Cleveland and who will be the starter at quarterback.

Note: Monken and Hafley tied with 32 points and remained tied after the first criteria tiebreaker. The second tiebreaker became personal preference.

29. His ability to set the culture and track record of immediate turnarounds makes him one of the most dependable coaches in the league.

7. Seattle’s belief in him is easy to understand because of the schematic creativity that he brings. Can the Seahawks get back into Super Bowl contention next season? Absolutely.

6. Mike Vrabel, New England Patriots<img class="gnt_em_img_i" style="height:472px" fetchpriority="high" data-g-r="lazy" data-gl-src="https://www.newsbeep.com/au/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/86663717007-usatsi-27309563.jpg" data-gl- decoding="async" alt="Oct 12, 2025; New Orleans, Louisiana, USA; New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel on the sidelines during the second half against the New Orleans Saints at Caesars Superdome. Identity/Culture was at an all-time high in 2025, but has taken a step back with offseason drama looming.

Vrabel has shown he can build a physical, disciplined team, and his leadership gives the Patriots a strong foundation. Pair that with an incredibly talented roster, and that gives you one of the best situations in the league.

5. His leadership and incredible defensive background make him one of the brightest young coaches.

Still just 41, expect to see Ryans and the Texans in plenty of big games in the future. If Houston can nail down its quarterback situation behind CJ Stroud, it should be perennial Super Bowl threats for years to come.

3. Andy Reid, Kansas City Chiefs<img class="gnt_em_img_i" style="height:440px" fetchpriority="high" data-g-r="lazy" data-gl-src="https://www.newsbeep.com/au/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/90795384007-usatsi-27931932.jpg" data-gl- decoding="async" alt="Jan 4, 2026; Paradise, Nevada, USA; Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid observes warm ups before a game against the Las Vegas Raiders at Allegiant Stadium. If you were to rank head coaches based on career success, Reid would be No. 1, but this ranking also weighs roster situation and projection. That’s why he lands just behind Nos. 1 and 2.

2. His offensive system consistently creates easy answers for quarterbacks, maximizes skill-position talent, and forces defenses to defend every inch of the field.

The only thing keeping Shanahan from the top spot is the lack of a Super Bowl win. Still, his schematic edge and ability to develop offensive talent make him one of the easiest coaches in the league to trust.

<img class="gnt_em_img_i" style="height:440px" fetchpriority="high" data-g-r="lazy" data-gl-src="https://www.newsbeep.com/au/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/87057242007-2244670784.jpg" data-gl- decoding="async" alt="INGLEWOOD, CALIFORNIA - NOVEMBER 02: Head coach Sean McVay of the Los Angeles Rams looks on prior to the game against the New Orleans Saints at SoFi Stadium on November 02, 2025 in Inglewood, California. He has the Super Bowl, the offensive creativity, the player-development track record, and the ability to keep the Rams competitive even when the roster around him changes.

What separates McVay is how quickly he adapts. The Rams have gone through different versions of their offense, different personnel groups, and different roster-building cycles. Still, McVay remains in Los Angeles, dominating at the highest level. Entering 2026, there might not be a coach in the league who blends proven success with schematic value better than McVay.

July 3, 2026, 11:55 a.m. CT Ranking NFL head coaches is never as simple as looking at career…

[559
202558,64,63,593,368401,85,368402,368403,203469,368405,368404,203909,203477,239283,203146,203905,203142,203149,202563,223224,204521,203903,203134,203498,210687,203139,202561
post-777000","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-nfl","tag-accessfree","tag-au","tag-australia","tag-nfl","tag-sourcesaints-wire","tag-sports","tag-sstssportsnflsaints","tag-sstsnsaints","tag-tagamerican-football","tag-tagceedee-lamb","tag-tagdave-canales","tag-tagkansas-city-chiefs","tag-taglos-angeles-rams","tag-tagmike-vrabel","tag-tagnational-sports","tag-tagnew-orleans-saints","tag-tagnfl","tag-tagnfl-hub","tag-tagoverall-positive","tag-tagrobert-saleh","tag-tagsean-mcvay","tag-tagseattle-seahawks","tag-tagsmg-listicle","tag-tagsport-scores-statistics","tag-tagsports-coaching-training","tag-tagsports-news","tag-typestory
["GET
