A new neighbourhood shopping centre is being proposed for Tapping, featuring an IGA supermarket, a childcare centre, and a range of other tenancies including a possible medical centre, restaurant, cafes and a pharmacy.<\/p>\n

An application by Perth-based Vespoli Constructions has been lodged with the City of Wanneroo to develop vacant land surrounding the Tapping McDonald\u2019s at the corner of Clarkson Avenue and Wanneroo Road.<\/p>\n

Vespoli is seeking to build five single-storey buildings with a total floor area of 5000sqm, and 192 car parking bays, creating a new mixed-use neighbourhood centre.<\/p>\n

The IGA and childcare centre are confirmed for the site, but the rest of the tenancies remain flexible.<\/p>\n

Developers expect these other tenancies to include a mix of uses, including consulting rooms, hair and beauty salons, and specialty stores, with a preference for cafe and restaurant uses at the site\u2019s entry points.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The IGA building would be about 1150sqm in size and include a small liquor store of about 100sqm.<\/p>\n

The childcare premises, planned for the north-east part of the site, is intended to cater for a maximum of 102 children aged up to five years, and is planned to operate from 6.30am-6.30pm, Monday-Friday.<\/p>\n

The central-northern building is planned to be a multi-tenancy building of about 1270sqm.<\/p>\n

The southern building would be about 1720sqm, also designed as a multi-tenancy building, along with a plaza area with outdoor seating.<\/p>\n

The fifth building is proposed to be a standalone restaurant\/cafe in the south-west corner of the site, with a total area of about 360sqm.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe proposed development represents an orderly, well-considered and policy-consistent neighbourhood activity centre that will provide meaningful local services and employment opportunities while respecting the amenity of surrounding residential areas,\u201d the applicant\u2019s planning report says.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe proposed development is generally in accordance with the current planning framework and responds to the specific character of the site.\u201d<\/p>\n

Vehicle access to the centre\u2019s carpark is proposed off Clarkson Avenue and Corvus Road.<\/p>\n

Other than the McDonald\u2019s built in 2020, the land at the corner of Clarkson Avenue and Wanneroo Road, where the development is proposed, has mostly been vacant since a warehouse on the site was demolished in the mid-2010s.<\/p>\n

Public consultation on the plans is open through the city of Wanneroo until July 8.<\/p>\n
