Phil Mickelson spoke out through a representative after recent allegations<\/a> brought to light by Alan Shipnuck\u2019s June 26 report.<\/p>\n Shipnuck claimed<\/a> that Mickelson\u2019s wife Amy personally requested<\/a> her husband\u2019s membership to be cancelled at the Madison Club.<\/p>\n She also played a part in the 56-year-old\u2019s departure from The Bridges. Mickelson allegedly escaped to illicit escapades, deceiving his wife, who would be tracking his phone from the clubhouse, by handing in to club members on the course.<\/p>\n \u201cMrs. Mickelson is not a public figure. She did not choose this spotlight, and there was no legitimate journalistic reason to drag her into it,\u201d Mickelson\u2019s spokesperson said<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cShipnuck\u2019s reporting suggests that Mrs. Mickelson orchestrated Mr. Mickelson\u2019s departures from golf clubs. That is false,\u201d they stressed. \u201cMr. Mickelson has never been forced by his wife.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cShipnuck attempts to portray an ordinary \u2018Find My\u2019 family feature, used by millions of families every day, as something sinister,\u201d they added.<\/p>\n GettyPhil Mickelson and wife Amy Mickelson during the 43rd Ryder Cup.<\/p>\n Skratch Golf, the publication Shipnuck works for, completely quashed those claims.<\/p>\n \u201cAssertion that Amy Mickelson is a private figure is wrong. She is certainly a public figure,\u201d Skratch claimed<\/a>. \u201cShe is a driving force behind the well-known and widely promoted philanthropic initiative, the \u2018Amy and Phil Mickelson Charitable Foundation.’\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cShe has actively sought the spotlight in the world of golf, including numerous interviews with prominent publications,\u201d they said. \u201cShe also participated in Sports Illustrated\u2019s swimsuit issue in 1998.\u201d<\/p>\n Amy Mickelson Shows Unwavering Support for Phil<\/p>\n When Skratch reached out to Tom Clare, a defamation attorney hired by Mickelson, for statements before publishing the story, he did not divulge too much. Around the same time, the Farms club incident happened.<\/p>\n Since then, the six-time major champion has stayed away from the public. He even withdrew from all four majors of this season.<\/p>\n His son was going through a health problem in March and Mickelson stated, \u201ca family health matter\u201d is keeping him away.<\/p>\n GettyPhil Mickelson made part of new allegations.<\/p>\n Clare reiterated the same statement to Skratch.<\/p>\n \u201cMr. Mickelson\u2019s priority is to become the husband, father, and man his family deserves,\u201d he said. \u201cRight now, that means giving his full attention to a private family health matter.\u201d<\/p>\n Amy, on the other hand, has been away for close to five years now.
