Eddie McGuire addressed Karl Stefanovic’s exit from their Gold FM radio show, The Long Weekend, after ARN terminated his contract $200,000 contract last week.<\/p>\n

McGuire, 61, confirmed Stefanovic’s exit as he fronted The Long Weekend solo on Friday. The ex-Today presenter, 51, had only hosted the three-hour radio show twice since its launch last month.<\/p>\n

“As extensively reported this week, my co-host and friend Karl Stefanovic will no longer be part of The Long Weekend show, as he dedicates the next phase of his amazingly successful career to his podcast, The Karl Stefanovic Show,” McGuire said.<\/p>\n

“Good on you, Karlos. It was short and sweet, mate, and I wish you all the best.”<\/p>\n

Last week, it was reported that ARN had followed in Nine’s footsteps<\/a> and dumped him from the Friday afternoon radio show.<\/p>\n

As reported by AFR, the network terminated Stefanovic’s contract, estimated to be worth $200,000, just days after he was ousted from Today in the wake of his controversial podcast interview with Tommy Robinson.<\/p>\n

The weekly programme, which launched on Gold on June 12, will now be reframed around McGuire, alongside Georgia Love and Toni Tenaglia.<\/p>\n

It comes after Nine said it was “no longer possible”<\/a> for Stefanovic to continue to work with the network after more than two decades, and ended his contract with immediate effect.<\/p>\n

“Nine Entertainment and Karl Stefanovic have agreed that it is no longer possible for him to continue hosting Today at the same time as his independent podcast,” a Nine spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

“While Karl and Nine had previously agreed he would leave Today at the end of this year, they have subsequently decided he will leave the Network immediately.”<\/p>\n

Stefanovic’s interview with Robinson – whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon – was pulled offline just hours after it was released, after Nine bosses reportedly raised their concerns<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In the episode, the presenter was seen wrapping his arms around the British right-wing activist, 43, telling him he admires his “tenacity” and “courage” in “trying to stand up for what you believe is right”.<\/p>\n

In an interview with Piers Morgan<\/a> on his The Karl Stefanovic Show podcast last week, the Aussie admitted he was feeling “discombobulated” by the fallout and his subsequent sacking.<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought Tommy Robinson was a legitimate interview for us to pick up,” he told Morgan, 61. “He came in, and we did it. I put it up on air, and then a couple of days later \u2013 boom.”<\/p>\n

Stefanovic then struggled to hold back tears as he discussed how the saga had impacted his loved ones.<\/p>\n
