{"id":782386,"date":"2026-07-06T09:43:12","date_gmt":"2026-07-06T09:43:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/782386\/"},"modified":"2026-07-06T09:43:12","modified_gmt":"2026-07-06T09:43:12","slug":"doctor-given-9-month-ban-for-misconduct-in-case-that-left-boy-disabled-for-life","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/782386\/","title":{"rendered":"Doctor given 9\u2011month ban for misconduct in case that left boy disabled for life"},"content":{"rendered":"<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">A Hong Kong paediatrician has been removed from the General Register for nine months after the medical watchdog found him guilty of professional misconduct over a case that left a boy permanently disabled more than 16 years ago.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">A Medical Council inquiry panel on Sunday convicted Dr Sit Sou-chi of failing to carry out all necessary and immediate investigations on newborn Li Yuanjian, the son of a mainland Chinese couple, after the infant suffered a seizure on December 22, 2009, at Hong Kong Baptist Hospital in Kowloon Tong.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The child was left with cerebral palsy and quadriplegia and is unable to care for himself.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The victim\u2019s father, Li Zhijian, said the punishment was appropriate but justice had been delayed.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cThis is not the end of our journey.
