France\u2019s Kylian Mbapp\u00e9 has hit back at a Paraguayan senator, describing her \u2060as a \u201cdespicable woman\u201d after she launched a racist attack on him. Mbapp\u00e9\u2019s \u2060penalty proved \u200bthe difference in an ill-tempered match as France beat Paraguay 1-0<\/a> in Philadelphia on Saturday to advance \u2060to the quarter-finals.<\/p>\n

Celeste Amarilla wrote a long tirade on X, describing Mbapp\u00e9 as a \u201ccolonised Cameroonian, desperately trying to \u2060pass himself off as French\u201d and as a \u201cbrute who had not learned to \u200bwrite\u201d. Paraguay\u2019s players should have \u200cslapped him after the \u200cmatch, she added.<\/p>\n

Mbapp\u00e9, the France<\/a> captain, responded with a strongly worded statement defending \u200cnot only himself, but also the Paraguay players. \u201cMadame Celeste Amarilla, you are a despicable woman and unworthy of your position. You do not represent Paraguay, that country which has sweated passion and honour throughout the competition,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cThrough your recklessness and your brazen racism, the entire world \u200chas already forgotten the journey and the historic effort that your players accomplished during this World Cup<\/a>, making way for \u200ban incompetent woman who gives the worst possible image of her country. I will never allow people like her the freedom to spread their hatred and racism across the world.\u201c<\/p>\n

The French Football Federation (FFF) escalated the matter, announcing plans to file \u2060criminal charges, describing her remarks as \u201cutterly abhorrent and unacceptable\u201d. They said: \u201cThese remarks \u200bare criminal and reprehensible. \u200bThey must be prosecuted here \u200bas elsewhere. The FFF is reporting the matter to the \u200bpublic prosecutor\u2019s office \u200cwith a \u200bview to legal \u200bproceedings.<\/p>\n
