Exclusive: When it comes to motherhood, it\u2019s a relatively new role for Jessica Mauboy<\/a> but she\u2019s absolutely loving every minute of it.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The 36-year-old pop star has been in the spotlight for over two decades now, since first shooting to fame on Australian Idol in 2006<\/a>, but there\u2019s a reason why she\u2019s keeping her daughter out of it.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Jessica Mauboy has been in the spotlight for over 20 years, but there’s one simple reason why she won’t be showing her daughter online. \u00a0Don Arnold\/WireImage<\/p>\n

Mauboy and her husband Themeli Magripilis<\/a> welcomed their daughter Mia in January 2025<\/a>, but they\u2019ve made the choice to keep her off social media.\u00a0<\/p>\n

While it\u2019s a decision many new parents are facing in today\u2019s world, for the singer it\u2019s got a lot to do with her own upbringing.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI think that\u2019s probably from my experience of being in media, since a young age,\u201d she told nine.com.au<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mauboy was originally a country singer, which started at around age 11.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI was doing a lot of travelling already, doing festivals, performing in front of – obviously smaller \u2013 crowds, but they were big to me then,\u201d she explained.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI was so young, and being in such gown-up spaces, where they\u2019d be in pubs, whether they\u2019d be at big shows, dance shows, or the major celebration get-togethers from people from everywhere.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mauboy reflected that she was very much in the media even then, and it wasn\u2019t as big as it is now.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cBut again my photos were taken, and I didn\u2019t really have a lot of control,\u201d she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Jessica and her husband Themeli Magripilis made the decision to not show Mia online and at first were nervous about how their friends and family would react. \u00a0Instagram\/@jessicamauboy<\/p>\n

She said even at the time her parents didn\u2019t really have a lot of knowledge about it, and they were all learning it.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cJust meeting people who knew a lot more than we did, and sometimes it was really scary because my parents and I didn\u2019t have any control,\u201d she continued.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, I think it\u2019s about knowing when and where and how and who, [to share] Mia with, for me.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Early on after welcoming Mia the couple were a bit nervous about what people, especially family, were going to say about the decision to keep her off social media.<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI think at the beginning, we were worried, like \u2018What are family going to think? What are friend\u2019s going to think, how are they going to connect with her?\u2019\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Even before her time on Australian Idol in 2006, Jess had been in the spotlight and that has really shaped her perspective as a mum and what she wants for her daughter. \u00a0Getty<\/p>\n

But they had nothing to worry about because Mauboy said, \u201cit\u2019s been wonderful\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt hasn\u2019t affected us at all,\u201d she added.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Burn hitmaker explained that they\u2019ve actually been able to see everyone in the flesh with Mia.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mauboy said that because of work she\u2019s been able to travel a lot, which is something she\u2019s so thankful for, and it\u2019s also given them the chance to go back and forth to see family.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it was really important for her to see people in the flesh, particularly with Mob,\u201d she explained.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople can do it on the phone and people can do it with technology these days that for us we\u2019re trying to kind of set that example of being, being in the flesh.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

And when it comes to touring and travel for Mauboy, the next few months after only going to get busier.<\/p>\n

On August 1 her \u00a0The Story Of Me Tour<\/a> will kick off in Brisbane and continue on to Hobart, Canberra, Geelong and Melbourne. <\/p>\n

It started as a one off at last year\u2019s Adelaide Cabaret Festival and at the City Recital Hall as part of Great Southern Nights and now has turned into a tour. <\/p>\n

Audiences can expect heartfelt ballads, some of her beloved classics and powerhouse anthems, although she admitted there\u2019s always a chance of requests from the audience too \u2013 which she said she gets a kick out of.<\/p>\n
