Private jets, including those belonging to Gina Rinehart and Pauline Hanson, will not be permitted to use the new Western Sydney International Airport when it opens.<\/p>\n
The new travel gateway, which will operate 24\/7 without a curfew, is set to welcome its first passengers on October 25 this year.<\/p>\n
Large business jets, including those from Bombardier and Gulfstream, will not be allowed to land at the new airport, which is focused on providing domestic and international passenger services to its catchment area of three million people.<\/p>\n
The restriction means mining billionaire Ms Rinehart will be unable to land her Gulfstream G700 at Western Sydney International Airport.<\/p>\n
One Nation leader Ms Hanson will also be barred from using the airport with her Cirrus G7 aircraft, which was donated by Rinehart.<\/p>\n
A Western Sydney International Airport spokeswoman said the only exception to the ban on general aviation would be emergency operations.<\/p>\n
“As a capital city international airport, WSI\u2019s focus is on providing domestic and international passenger services and boosting Sydney\u2019s critical air cargo capacity,” they told The Australian.<\/p>\n
“WSI launch operations will therefore not include general aviation facilities.<\/p>\n
“The only exception to this would be non-routine landings (such as emergency incidents) for which Airservices Australia controllers may prioritise an urgent landing at WSI.”<\/p>\n
In April, Ms Hanson announced she had been gifted a new plane after previously facing criticism for flying on Ms Rinehart\u2019s private jet.<\/p>\n
“I\u2019ve got a new plane… Yes it was donated. Yes I\u2019m super happy. Yes it\u2019s fast. Yes it\u2019s amazing. Yes it\u2019s going to annoy The Guardian,” Ms Hanson said at the time.<\/p>\n
“Yes it means I can visit more regional towns across the country more often. Yes it\u2019s a Cirrus G7. Yes it\u2019s sexy. Yes I have a pilot.<\/p>\n
“No I won’t be doing Welcome to Country each (time) we land. No it’s not battery operated.”<\/p>\n
Air New Zealand will begin flights to Auckland on October 26 from the new airport, and Singapore Airlines will start its daily flights to Changi on November 23, 2026.<\/p>\n
The announcement follows the completion of a five-year agreement between the Qantas Group and WSI, led by chief executive Simon Hickey.<\/p>\n
