LAST month\u2019s Darwin Triple Crown saw a niche piece of history extended in relation to the #26 and its winning ways.<\/p>\n

The two-six has now won on four occasions over the course of the ATCC\/Supercars Championship\u2019s entirety.<\/p>\n

But it turns out, the biggest constant between those instances in terms of drivers is actually one who has never donned the #26 himself.<\/p>\n

Allan Grice was the number\u2019s sole winner prior to the Gen3 Supercars era, when he was victorious in wild circumstances at the 1977 Phillip Island 500. Fellow Holden Torana A9X racer Peter Janson received the chequered flag first due to a lap scoring error; it wasn\u2019t until just after the ATV-0 (now Channel Ten) broadcast went off air that the error was found, establishing Grice as the winner by 40.9 seconds rather than being about a minute behind Janson.<\/p>\n

Fast forward to the 2023 Gold Coast 500 and you had David Reynolds<\/a> winning in more straightforward fashion for Grove Racing.<\/p>\n

Now twice this year Kai Allen<\/a> has won aboard #26, at Ruapuna and Hidden Valley.<\/p>\n

The key constant in each of the past three races, however, was the presence of Brodie Kostecki<\/a> in the podium placings.<\/p>\n

It was Kostecki hassling Reynolds to the max at Gold Coast 2023, and likewise harassing Allen in Christchurch.<\/p>\n

He wasn\u2019t quite as threatening to Allen\u2019s Darwin win, partly due to being pretty seriously under the weather, but still did enough to finish third.<\/p>\n

In fairness, it would have been hard for Kostecki to make it a perfect four-from-four in #26 triumphs, given he was 20 years off being born when the Grice case occurred.<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, it\u2019s a quirk to monitor going forward: that when #26 wins, Kostecki is inevitably right on its tail.<\/p>\n
