A prisoner who slipped away from guards at Royal Darwin Hospital and sparked a two-day manhunt has been arrested, ending the latest in a string of escapes involving men allegedly linked to the Mongols outlaw motorcycle gang.<\/p>\n
Isaac Thompson, 26, was taken into custody on Tuesday afternoon after officers tracked him to Darwin River \u2014 more than 48 hours after police said he escaped while being escorted from an ambulance into the emergency department on Sunday night.<\/p>\n
Police had said Mr Thompson was handcuffed and wearing only shorts and socks when he got away. <\/p>\n
They also alleged he was a \u201cknown associate of the Mongols outlaw motorcycle gang\u201d and had been \u201cassisted by known associates\u201d while on the run.<\/p>\n
An NT Police Force spokesperson said the arrest was made without incident.<\/p>\n
\u201cOfficers from the Fugitive Taskforce arrested him a short time ago at a location in Darwin River without incident,\u201d the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n
\u201cInvestigations into his escape remain ongoing.\u201d<\/p>\n
Police had not said whether Mr Thompson would face any additional charges over the alleged escape.<\/p>\n
His arrest followed a series of recent custody breaches in the Northern Territory involving men police alleged had links to the Mongols.<\/p>\n
About two weeks earlier, a 31-year-old man described by police as a \u201cknown association of the Mongols\u201d escaped while under corrections supervision at Royal Darwin Hospital, but was recaptured within eight minutes.<\/p>\n
