Ubisoft\u2019s Assassin\u2019s Creed series has been a saga of ups and downs, but it\u2019s almost universally agreed upon that 2013\u2019s Assassin\u2019s Creed IV: Black Flag is one of its best.<\/p>\n
Now, an acceptable 13 years later, Black Flag has returned with a \u201cResynced\u201d remake, reviews for which have just gone live on Metacritic<\/a>, coalescing into a score. So, how did it do?<\/p>\n Good!<\/p>\n With dozens of reviews in, Assassin\u2019s Creed Black Flag Resynced has an 84 Metacritic score on both PC and PS5. That\u2019s not far off from the original version, which ranged from an 83 score on PS4 to an 86 on Xbox 360 to an 88 on PS3. And in the larger context of the market, an 84 is solid. In terms of larger-scale releases in 2026 here, that puts it inside the top 10, at least.<\/p>\n What are critics saying about Black Flag Resynced? Here\u2019s a sampling:<\/p>\n PlayStation Universe<\/a> (9.5\/10) \u2013 \u201cAssassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is a fantastic remake that adds meaningful changes and quality-of-life improvements that make an already stellar swashbuckling adventure an absolute must-have for PS5 owners.\u201dIGN<\/a> (9\/10) \u2013 \u201cMore than just a shinier version of the same game you remember, Assassin\u2019s Creed Black Flag Resynced brings what was already one of the best games in the series up to today\u2019s standards.\u201dGame Informer<\/a> (8.3\/10) \u2013 \u201cFor me, a lot of the joy and excitement of Assassin\u2019s Creed comes from visiting a new era in history and rediscovering the series\u2019 conflict through the lens of that time and place. This return to a familiar locale lacks that, but it should still offer it for newer players who never experienced the game more than a decade ago.\u201d<\/p>\n Black Flag Resynced<\/p>\n Ubisoft<\/p>\n Black Flag Resynced comes in the wake of Assassin\u2019s Creed Shadows, a controversial but fast-selling game in the series that scored an 81. Ubisoft has a number of AC games in the works, the highest-profile of which is the Salem Witch Trial-era Hexe, but it has undergone resource shifts, with dozens of devs reportedly transferring elsewhere in Ubisoft, and it has no firm release date, with estimates in 2027. Maybe. Ubisoft also has multiplayer and mobile titles in the works for the series.<\/p>\n Ubisoft stock has declined precipitously in the last five years, and there have been frequent talks of a sale or taking the company private, which have not materialized. Interestingly, over the last month, the stock is up 17%. We\u2019ll see if it moves after these Black Flag numbers.
