The victorious NSW coach blasted \u201chidden agendas\u201d and \u201cunnecessary\u201d reporting that went too far in a tense press conference after the Blues stunned the Maroons<\/a> to win Wednesday night\u2019s decider.<\/p>\n

The widespread criticism of Daley had been the subject of much debate, with veteran reporter Dean Ritchie branding the pile-on \u201crevolting\u201d after game two<\/a>.<\/p>\n

There was an element of confusion, however, as to what exactly had crossed the line given a lot of conversation centred around genuine issues \u2014 be it the use of his interchange or selections.<\/p>\n

Daley didn\u2019t provide any clarity on the exact reporting that went too far in his press conference, but he made it clear there were a few people that may be receiving phone calls in the coming days.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo one likes criticism. I get that. You know it comes, so you\u2019ve got to accept it and cop it. But there\u2019s some parts of criticism that go way, way above others which I get really disappointed with,\u201d Daley said.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople that report like that need to have a hard look at themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n

There was one report in the wake of game one<\/a> that Daley\u2019s \u201csleepy\u201d pre-game speeches were partly to blame for the Blues\u2019 slow starts, which was refuted by NSW players at the time<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Daley clearly looked frustrated in Wednesday night\u2019s press conference despite the victory, and when asked by one journalist if he ever questioned his own coaching in the midst of all the criticism, Daley delivered another pointed message to his biggest detractors.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m a leader. There\u2019s a difference between leader and coaching,\u201d Daley said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou go and ask Billy: why does he have assistant coaches? Why do you have an assistant defence coach? Why do you have an assistant attack coach? Why? Tell me. <\/p>\n

\u201cYou know what the coach does \u2014 the coach drives it. So it just frustrates me a lot. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe coach sets the tone, the coach talks to his coaches about how they want to implement plans. Some of the stuff that\u2019s been written and said, gee, come on. But anyway, hopefully those blokes might have a decent look at themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt wasn\u2019t about the last laugh,\u201d Daley later added.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was just about these blokes playing the best they possibly could. And in particular when people have a crack when they don\u2019t even come to a training session, they won\u2019t front up to press conferences. Show some balls. Where are they now?\u201d<\/p>\n

When it was asked whether Daley would be calling those journalists, the Blues coach immediately fired back: \u201cWell, why should I?\u201d before adding, \u201cYou know what, I\u2019ll see\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll see,\u201d he repeated with emphasis. <\/p>\n

This, a man who is now in total control of the narrative as Luke Keary flagged with <\/a>foxsports.com.au <\/a>this week<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou can judge his coaching career after that,\u201d Keary said.<\/p>\n

\u201cCall him a good bloke, a bad bloke, a good coach, a bad coach. Nothing else really matters until the result next week.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now, Daley is a champion and so he can say what he wants and on Wednesday night, as promised, he did just that.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just think it was unnecessary. I think there were hidden agendas,\u201d Daley added.<\/p>\n

\u201cSometimes things are planted in the media too, so I\u2019d love to know where that came from and you know how it all works. <\/p>\n

\u201cBut when you\u2019ve put a lot into a game and put a lot into trying to be the person you are, and people attack you from an angle that you go, \u2018Wow\u2019…. anyway, that\u2019s probably my rant. But I hope it never happens to you one day.\u201d<\/p>\n

Daley said he hadn\u2019t read any of the reporting but had \u201cbeen told about it\u201d when asked what in particular had upset him.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo I\u2019d be only making it up,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut I think the second-hand feedback has been pretty heavy. I don\u2019t know whether that\u2019s true or not, but I\u2019m assuming that most of it\u2019s true. <\/p>\n

\u201cPeople would say, \u2018Oh mate, are you okay?\u2019 and I go, \u2018Yeah, why?\u2019 I don\u2019t like it but you accept it, but it\u2019s other people that get affected by it as well when they go heavy. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt is what it is and people write stories and do whatever they want but you\u2019ve got to be held accountable to some of your stories too and I\u2019ll read those stories and if things aren\u2019t true I\u2019ll call them out and then they can either explain that they made it up, they can explain where they got it from or they can hide behind someone gave it to me. So, I\u2019ll see which one it is.\u201d<\/p>\n

But for now, before he makes any of those phone calls, it is time for a well-earned beer.<\/p>\n

\u201cI haven\u2019t had a beer for nearly four months,\u201d Daley said.<\/p>\n
