{"id":788250,"date":"2026-07-09T02:28:09","date_gmt":"2026-07-09T02:28:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/788250\/"},"modified":"2026-07-09T02:28:09","modified_gmt":"2026-07-09T02:28:09","slug":"australia-news-live-us-launches-strikes-against-iran-telstra-investigating-second-network-fault-indian-pm-kicks-off-australian-visit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/788250\/","title":{"rendered":"Australia news LIVE: US launches strikes against Iran; Telstra investigating second network fault; Indian PM kicks off Australian visit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Liberal senator Sarah Henderson says she makes no apology for calling Triple Zero yesterday to check whether her calls would be connected, despite not doing so again today.<\/p>\n<p>Labor frontbenchers have labelled yesterday\u2019s move as \u201cabsolutely outrageous\u201d given the network needed to be kept clear for people in genuine emergencies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI make no apology for doing my job,\u201d Henderson told radio station 3AW this morning. \u201cAs the shadow minister, I have a particular job to do, and I certainly take that job very seriously.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The senator, who is the Coalition\u2019s communications spokesperson, doubled down on <a class=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/national\/australia-news-live-us-launches-strikes-against-iran-telstra-investigating-second-network-fault-indian-pm-kicks-off-australian-visit-20260709-p60dtt.html?post=p5aqra&amp;gb=1\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">earlier remarks she made<\/a> on 2GB radio this morning and rejected any suggestion she had broken the law by calling Triple Zero even though she wasn\u2019t experiencing an emergency.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe law is very clear. It relates to those who make hoax or vexatious emergency calls. I wasn\u2019t doing either of those things. In all honesty, these are desperate claims from a desperate minister.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Henderson confirmed she had not tried calling Triple Zero this morning to once again test the connection.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf course I haven\u2019t. Telstra has made it clear that people should not make test calls.
