Lately, it hasn\u2019t been quiet for Jets quarterback Geno Smith.<\/p>\n<p>In June, police started (then stopped, then started again) <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsports.com\/nfl\/profootballtalk\/rumor-mill\/news\/nfl-is-aware-of-geno-smith-investigation-but-declines-further-comment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">an assault investigation<\/a> in Florida. More recently, Smith was ticketed for speeding.<\/p>\n<p>ESPN\u2019s Rich Cimini said in an appearance on the Jets Collective podcast that it happened on July 6 at roughly 11:00 a.m. ET. Per Cimini, police said Smith was driving <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NYJetsHMA\/status\/2074960188184920168?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">70 miles per hour in a 45 mph zone<\/a>. Smith was also cited for not being able to produce a license.<\/p>\n<p>In isolation, and as Cimini said, it\u2019s not a big deal. But Smith is the starting quarterback of the New York Jets, and there\u2019s already an unresolved cloud hanging over him. Anything he does is going to make news.<\/p>\n<p>Cimini hasn\u2019t tweeted about it on his account, and there\u2019s no item on ESPN.com. But he said it on Jets Collective, and others have picked up on it.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s just something else that brings the kind of attention to Smith and the Jets that they\u2019d surely rather not have during the NFL\u2019s annual slow period.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"It\u2019s supposed to be a quiet time for NFL players.
