The Blues and Laurie Daley had the last laugh after Wednesday\u2019s State of Origin decider, with the NSW coach calling out \u201cunnecessary\u201d and \u201cpersonal\u201d criticism<\/a> after the series victory.<\/p>\n

Now, some of Daley\u2019s biggest critics have responded.<\/p>\n

Daley nailed his selections and the use of his bench in the Suncorp Stadium upset, but he left his best performance for the post-game press conference.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo one likes criticism. I get that. You know it comes, so you\u2019ve got to accept it and cop it. But there\u2019s some parts of criticism that go way, way above others which I get really disappointed with,\u201d Daley said.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople that report like that need to have a hard look at themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Daley did not go into details on what or who he was referring to, NSW Rugby League chief executive Dave Trodden singled out <\/a>one report<\/a> from Code Sports\u2019 Travis Meyn and Peter Badel after game one which referenced \u201csleepy\u201d pre-game speeches.<\/p>\n

\u201cCriticise selections by all means, criticise tactics by all means, but some of the personal stuff was just unacceptable,\u201d Trodden said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe nonsense about what happens in pre-game speeches, the nonsense about different things that happen within camp, criticism is made by people who\u2019ve never been to a camp.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou just wonder where that comes from. Nobody should have to deal with that. Laurie certainly shouldn\u2019t have to deal with it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Code Sports reporter Brent Read and foxsports.com.au columnist Paul Crawley were two of Daley\u2019s biggest critics throughout the series, but were both happy to see the Blues legend come out on top and prove everyone \u2014 including themselves \u2014 wrong.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel really happy for him,\u201d Read said on NRL 360. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe saw Laurie fire up about the criticism of him. It was never personal. We all love Laurie. He\u2019s a great bloke. He was a champion player. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe criticism was about his coaching, his selection and his use of the bench. They were the issues and he got it right in this game. He deserves eternal credit for that, and I\u2019m happy for the bloke.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s their day in the sun,\u201d added Crawley. <\/p>\n

\u201cBut there was no criticism if they performed previously. Going back to last year\u2019s series, going back to the first game this series, they got out of jail because Ponga was sent off the field. Game two same deal. <\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know what they expect people to say when you\u2019re watching what you\u2019re watching and they\u2019re not aiming up. They got it right in game three.\u201d<\/p>\n

Crawley went on to add that he could not remember any \u201cpersonal\u201d criticism outside of the article on Daley\u2019s pre-game speeches. <\/p>\n

\u201cLaurie is going to take it personally because it\u2019s criticism aimed at him, but I think it goes with the territory when you\u2019re talking about State of Origin and everyone\u2019s going to have their say after every single game,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

It is a point that NRL 360 co-host and former Blues player Braith Anasta made, especially in the wake of the historic announcement earlier in the week<\/a> that the NRL and NRLW will continue to live on Kayo Sports and Foxtel for at least the next nine seasons.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe just got a $5.3 billion TV deal. You\u2019ve got to look at it like this,\u201d Anasta said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou look at global Sport and you look at the NFL and the NBA and how far our game has come. It\u2019s got to a point now where we just secured the richest deal ever. We\u2019ve got podcasts. We\u2019ve got TV shows, networks, radio stations. <\/p>\n

\u201cEveryone wants a piece of our game. Everyone wants an opinion, and they\u2019ve got every right to have it because at the end of the day if you\u2019re going to be the coach of New South Wales, Queensland or a first grade coach like Michael Maguire or Kevin Walters, the game has grown that much but you\u2019ve got to take the good with the bad. <\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re going to get criticism when you\u2019re not doing so well, but you\u2019re going to get applauded when you\u2019re killing it. That is just across the board. That is life. <\/p>\n
