For someone who\u2019s known for indulging on the course<\/a>, it seemed plausible that world No. 5 Charley Hull\u2019s impressive back nine 31 at the Amundi Evian Championship on Thursday was inspired by an ice cream cone.<\/p>\n

Even the cameras caught it<\/a>. And naturally, it being 2026, the moment \u201cI think it was the ice cream\u201d went viral amongst golf fans.<\/p>\n

But the adage \u2018Don\u2019t always believe what you see on TV\u2019 proved true. <\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t eat the ice cream. My boyfriend got it for my caddie, so I held it for a minute when he was putting my club in the bag,\u201d Hull admitted to reporters after carding an opening round 5-under 66 which tied for her lowest opening round at a major.<\/p>\n

Hull divulged that she does eat during tournaments, of course, but it\u2019s mostly bars and bananas. <\/p>\n

\u201cI always eat every other hole,\u201d she explained. \u201cSo I eat on the third, the fifth, and the seventh, and then just every hole in pretty much.\u201d<\/p>\n

So if not a detour from her diet, what exactly triggered Hull\u2019s impressive turnaround in France? She was 2 over through her first six holes before finishing the round birdie-birdie-par-eagle to put herself in the mix for her first career major.<\/p>\n

\u201cI kind of just believed in myself and just kind of relaxed out there and took my time and took advantage of the birdies,\u201d the 30-year-old Hull said.<\/p>\n

Hull, who is playing in her 11th event of the season, finished T-10 at the Chevron and T-2 at the U.S. Women\u2019s Open before missing the cut at the Women\u2019s PGA in the year\u2019s first three majors.<\/p>\n

She sits T-3, three back of Aki Iwai\u2019s lead at 8 under. France\u2019s Perrine Delacour is in solo second after 18 holes, two shots behind Iwai.<\/p>\n

\u201cVery lucky to be here \u2014 it\u2019s almost like a little holiday,\u201d Hull said of Evian Resort Golf Club.<\/p>\n

Hull, who hit a season-high 16 of 18 greens in regulation in the opening round, will tee off at 1:36 a.m. ET Friday <\/a>with fellow stars Lydia Ko and Jeeno Thitikul in a featured group.<\/p>\n
