One fan\u00a0in particular holds\u00a0a special place for Coyne Schofield in her heart. Hannah Daubenmire is an\u00a011-year old\u00a0girl from\u00a0Gahanna who\u00a0was diagnosed with osteosarcoma\u00a0in August 2024\u00a0after noticing pain in her knee. Now cancer free\u00a0after 18 rounds of chemo, Daubenmire utilizes her experiences to help others, but through her cancer journey, the hockey community became a source of comfort.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen I was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, which is\u00a0a rare\u00a0bone cancer, there was this foundation that matched you up with sports teams,\u201d\u00a0Daubenmire said. \u201cSo\u00a0I got paired up with the Ohio State\u00a0women\u2019s\u00a0hockey team. I was never a (hockey) fan before that, but now\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0a huge fan.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Daubenmire\u2019s close connection with the team catapulted her to Ohio State\u2019s No. 1 fan status, particularly resonating with defensemen Maria Roth and Mira Jung\u00e5ker\u00a0\u2013\u00a0who share the same position as Daubenmire\u00a0in sled hockey\u00a0\u2013\u00a0and Coyne Schofield\u2019s 2026 Olympics teammate Joy Dunne.<\/p>\n
The\u00a0Daubenmire family also built a relationship with former OSU defenseman and current PWHLer Emily\u00a0Zumwinkle, whose sister, Grace, is a two-time Olympian who plays on the Frost with Coyne Schofield.\u00a0In addition, Hannah was visited\u00a0in 2024 at Nationwide Children\u2019s Hospital by Blue Jackets players Ivan Provorov, Jake\u00a0Christiansen\u00a0and Kevin Labanc.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Daubenmire attended Monday\u2019s event sporting a\u00a0Minnesota jersey with Grace Zumwinkle\u2019s name on the back. Like many others in line, Daubenmire patiently waited to have Coyne Schofield add her signature to the purple uniform. Only excitement was felt after Daubenmire got her chance to converse with the best in her sport.\u00a0<\/p>\n
