England <\/a>manager Thomas Tuchel is said to be \u201cfurious\u201d over the two-match ban handed defender Jarell Quansah, and has asked the English FA to file a complaint over the decision by FIFA<\/a>\u2019s disciplinary committee.<\/p>\n

Quansah was given his marching orders following a red card in the team\u2019s World Cup<\/a> last-16 victory over Mexico, leaving Tuchel short of backline options for the latter stages of the tournament.<\/p>\n

Tuchel\u2019s frustration reportedly stems from referee Alireza Faghan first being shown a still image of Quansah\u2019s challenge. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s crazy, another right [sided] defender out in the game,\u201d Tuchel said. <\/p>\n

\u201cI never thought that VAR would get involved. In the game, this was not even given a foul. The referee obviously also thought that it\u2019s a hard tackle, but it was okay for him to let it play.<\/p>\n

\u201cVAR came, made a decision, and then I just saw the still on the screen. When you see a still then you know. It\u2019s just that you cannot take decisions on a still in a football match. It\u2019s just not possible and they did it, of course, against us. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m very upset, of course. It\u2019s disappointing and a setback. For me, not enough for VAR to overturn the decision.\u201d<\/p>\n

Other reports suggest The FA made a formal representation to FIFA, arguing that the VAR process had not been correctly followed.<\/p>\n

Quansah was sent off after a video review determined that he made a sliding studs-up tackle. <\/p>\n

The English FA said it was not able to appeal against the suspension, without giving further details.<\/p>\n

The two-match ban means Quansah will miss England\u2019s quarter-final against Norway on Saturday in Miami and a potential semi-final should they advance.<\/p>\n

The defender would only be available again for selection if England reach the World Cup final.<\/p>\n

Speaking to reporters after England\u2019s training session in Kansas City, England star Bukayo Saka said: \u201cI just found out. Very frustrating. But it\u2019s the way it is now.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have to deal with it and adapt and be ready for the game.\u201d<\/p>\n

Understandably, the decision to ban Quansah has been met with uproar in England, especially in light of the Folarin Balogun situation<\/a>.<\/p>\n

British media quickly drew comparisons between the two cases, with The Independent running the headline: \u201cFIFA confirms Jarell Quansah ban just days after Folarin Balogun reprieve.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cEverything is exaggerated since Balogun\u2019s suspension was overturned,\u201d said Mark Schwarzer<\/a> on Stan Sport\u2019s Added Time. \u201cLack of consistency is the issue.\u201d<\/p>\n

Balogun, was sent off during the United States\u2019 round-of-32 win over Bosnia but received a one-match suspension that FIFA later suspended<\/a>, after intervention from US President Donald Trump<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cFIFA have failed in their duty towards the game after they delayed the ban for Balogun. They allowed outside interference by the president,\u201d former referee Keith Hackett wrote on social media.<\/p>\n

\u201cFIFA the major lawmaker are at fault. But both players committed Serious Foul Play challenges sanctioned by a red card.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jonas Eriksson, who was a FIFA referee for 16 years from 2002, said if Balogun got a one-match suspension, Quansah should have as well, given their two on-field incidents were roughly equal in terms of intensity and aggression.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat everyone wants from referees, they want the correct decisions, yes, but more important always is consistency,\u201d Eriksson told Reuters.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat you identify, okay, player A gets the same sanction as player B. Team A gets the same sanction as team B. You know, that\u2019s what you expect. And this is not the case when it comes to Quansah and Balogun.
