The Brewers and right-hander Bryse Wilson<\/a> are in agreement on a deal, reports Robert Murray of FanSided<\/a>. It\u2019s unclear if it\u2019s a major or minor league deal. If it\u2019s a big league pact, the Brewers will need to open space for Wilson on the active and 40-man rosters.<\/p>\n

Wilson, 28, is in his ninth major league season. He has worked both as a starter and as a reliever over the years, logging 470 2\/3 innings, allowing 4.86 earned runs per nine. His 16.6% strikeout rate is subpar but he has limited walks to a 7.4% pace.<\/p>\n

His numbers have been up and down but one of his best performances was with the Brewers. Over the 2023 and 2024 seasons, he gave Milwaukee 181 1\/3 innings with a 3.42 ERA, 18.9% strikeout rate and 7% walk rate. He got some help from a .253 batting average on balls in play and 80.9% strand rate, so his 4.68 FIP and 4.33 SIERA suggested he was more passable than great, but it was a nice run regardless.<\/p>\n

Since then, his results have declined. The Brewers outrighted him off the roster ahead of the 2025 season. Wilson landed with the White Sox but posted a 6.65 ERA for that club last year. He started this year with the Phillies on a minor league deal. He was stretched out as a starter at Triple-A and put up a 6.29 ERA.<\/p>\n

That number is obviously not impressive but a few factors led Philly to call him up anyway. They had a need on the big league pitching staff after optioning Andrew Painter<\/a>. Wilson triggered an upward mobility clause in his deal after his last three Triple-A starts were scoreless, so the Phils brought him up.<\/p>\n

He made one appearance, tossing two scoreless innings, but the Phillies quickly designated him for assignment. He was claimed off waivers by the Cubs and made two appearances for them, allowing seven earned runs in 7 2\/3 innings. He was designated for assignment by Chicago, cleared waivers and elected free agency. He now has a 6.52 ERA on the year in a tiny sample of 9 2\/3 innings.<\/p>\n

It hasn\u2019t been a great showing for Wilson recently but the Brewers have a knack for getting the best out of their players and that has been the case with Wilson. Perhaps they have a plan for how to help him produce better results than he has since he left Milwaukee.<\/p>\n

The club certainly could use some viable arms. Brandon Woodruff<\/a> just hit the injured list again due to his ongoing shoulder problems. He joins Quinn Priester<\/a>, Coleman Crow<\/a>, Carlos Rodriguez<\/a>, Brian Fitzpatrick<\/a>, DL Hall<\/a>, Joel Kuhnel<\/a>, Rob Zastryzny<\/a> and Angel Zerpa<\/a> on the IL. Milwaukee\u2019s pitching staff is still strong but all of those injuries have tested the depth, so they have brought back a familiar face to help out.<\/p>\n
