Mark Webber has responded to speculation over Oscar Piastri\u2019s future at McLaren, with the former F1 driver \u2013 who acts as Piastri\u2019s manager \u2013 stating that \u201cthere has been a lot of fiction written\u201d.<\/p>\n
Reports emerged recently suggesting that Max Verstappen<\/a>\u2019s management had held informal discussions to explore opportunities at McLaren<\/a>, and this followed on from rumours earlier in the year that the Red Bull<\/a> driver could make a direct switch with Piastri<\/a> \u2013 a notion that was publicly rejected<\/a> by Team Principal Andrea Stella<\/a>.<\/p>\n In light of the speculation emerging again, Piastri \u2013 who holds a multi-year deal<\/a> with the papaya outfit \u2013 reiterated during the British Grand Prix weekend that he is content where he is, having commented<\/a>: \u201cI’ve got a contract in place, multiple reassurances that the team are very happy with me and I’m very happy with the team.\u201d<\/p>\n Now Webber<\/a> has given his take on the situation and backed Piastri\u2019s view.<\/p>\n \u201cOscar is contracted to McLaren for the foreseeable future,\u201d the nine-time Grand Prix winner told RACER. \u201cTalk of him agitating to leave is nonsense.<\/p>\n \u201cThere has been a lot of fiction written about him and other teams\u2026 McLaren have repeatedly said they want him for the long term and Oscar is focused on that.\u201d<\/p>\n It comes after McLaren CEO Zak Brown<\/a> also insisted that he is pleased with the squad\u2019s current pairing of Piastri and Lando Norris<\/a>, the latter also holding a multi-year deal like his team mate.<\/p>\n
