Image: InSyde Media <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/t.cfjump.com\/92797\/b\/287093\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" rel=\"nofollow sponsored noopener\" onmousedown=\"this.rel=\" nofollow=\"\" sponsored=\"\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: none; vertical-align: middle;\" alt=\"\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/t.cfjump.com\/92797\/a\/287093\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Cam Waters revealed in the aftermath of the Friday triumph that he had radio problems from the moment he rolled out to the grid.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it was the TV people messing with my radio,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Waters noted it improved from there, crucially allowing him to hear a<a href=\"https:\/\/speedcafe.com\/supercars-news-2026-townsville-500-cam-waters-tickford-racing-thomas-randle-matt-roberts\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> race-defining lap 18 call to make his compulsory pit stop.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>However, it was just the latest of many radio issues experienced by teams in the pit lane this year following the adoption of a control system.<\/p>\n<p>The move to have the whole pit lane to utilise Riedel Communications came as part of Supercars\u2019 switch to a new TV production partner, NEP.<\/p>\n<p>It was made to more seamlessly integrate team radio communications into the broadcast, but has proven troublesome for those in pit lane.<\/p>\n<p>    Tickets for the 2026 NTI Townsville 500 are on sale now. It\u2019s rubbish. It\u2019s been rubbish for a while,\u201d Tickford team manager Matt Roberts told Speedcafe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe guys been working on it for many rounds now. We\u2019ve changed nearly everything we can in the cars.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve changed radio helmet kits, we\u2019ve changed programs, you name it, we\u2019ve thrown it at it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd then on the outlap, there was nothing, zero. Cam couldn\u2019t hear us. We couldn\u2019t hear him. It was not audible.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe could hear the broadcast trying to communicate. I\u2019m not sure if broadcast could hear him or not\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/speedcafe.com\/supercars-news-2026-townsville-500-cam-waters-tickford-racing-thomas-randle-matt-roberts\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Inside the risky split-second call behind Waters\u2019 Townsville win<\/a><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Roberts is hopeful that further work can fix the problem ahead of today\u2019s track action.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSomething\u2019s got to be done about it. It\u2019s not good enough. It\u2019s got to be fixed,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe cannot race properly like that. If there was a Safety Car, he\u2019s going past pit entry, race is done.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe just said to him, \u2018look, if you see Safety Car boards and flags and you can\u2019t hear us, you\u2019re in. We\u2019ll be here waiting for you\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had a perfectly working system last year, and I just want to get back to that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m happy to work with whoever it is that can give us a working radio system.
