{"id":794008,"date":"2026-07-11T18:30:08","date_gmt":"2026-07-11T18:30:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/794008\/"},"modified":"2026-07-11T18:30:08","modified_gmt":"2026-07-11T18:30:08","slug":"former-world-champion-wants-to-face-marcos-maidana-again-in-the-biggest-fight-ever","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/794008\/","title":{"rendered":"Former world champion wants to face Marcos Maidana again in &#8216;the biggest fight ever&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Marcos Maidana has been called out by a former foe, who would agree to a rematch if the Argentinian whips himself into shape.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/boxing\/story\/_\/id\/11522417\/floyd-mayweather-jr-scores-unanimous-decision-marcos-maidana-rematch\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">former two-weight world champion has not fought since his second encounter with Floyd Mayweather<\/a>, which resulted in a unanimous decision defeat in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Their first fight, earlier that year, saw Mayweather edge a majority decision, though many felt his opponent had done enough to emerge victorious.<\/p>\n<p>Even after their rematch, Maidana remained a formidable puncher at just 30 years old, but ultimately decided to call time on his storied career.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018El Chino\u2019 then attempted to make a comeback in 2019, only to remain retired after struggling to drop down from a reported 240lbs.<\/p>\n<p>Subsequently, there was a planned exhibition match against former kickboxing champion Jorge Cali, who sadly passed away in 2021 after their encounter was postponed during the COVID pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>But despite Maidana, now 42, having not fought for over a decade, former rival <a href=\"https:\/\/boxingnewsonline.net\/boxer\/adrien-broner\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Adrien Broner<\/a> seemingly remains eager to exact his revenge.<\/p>\n<p>When asked about a potential rematch during his <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/00Keloo\/status\/2075513364541743575\" rel=\"nofollow\">Kick livestream<\/a>, though, the 36-year-old admitted it can only happen if both himself Maidana shed some weight.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast time Maidana tried to fight, almost died from the training. But [the rematch] would be like the biggest fight in the world.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would love to do it. If Maidana\u2019s down and we both get in some shape [then] fight me for round two.
