GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – Former Mauldin football star and current New York Giants cornerback Dru Phillips returned to his old stomping grounds on Saturday afternoon. <\/p>\n
Phillips hosted his second-annual youth camp at The Salvation Army Kroc Center in downtown Greenville. Over 100 campers joined in on the fun and participated in games, skill drills and competitions. <\/p>\n
The Mavericks legend told Palmetto Sports he wants to be a face for the Greenville community, emphasizing both the on-field and off-field benefits of a youth camp. <\/p>\n
\u201cI didn\u2019t really go to many camps growing up,\u201d Phillips said. \u201cWhen I did end up getting to college and then to the NFL, I wanted to be able to to have that so all kids have the opportunity to come out to something like this. When I was younger, I wish there was someone around that I\u2019d seen that made it to the NFL or at least gave me a little bit of wisdom on how to get there. So I\u2019m just here to give back.\u201d <\/p>\n
Phillips said he also spends plenty of time with family when he\u2019s back in the Upstate and enjoys Greenville\u2019s downtown. <\/p>\n
Greenville\u2019s own \u201cYou\u2019re Next Training\u201d and fellow football players, including current high school talents from the area and Clemson freshman Kentavion \u201cPolo\u201d Anderson, helped Phillips lead the camp. <\/p>\n
After three years at Kentucky, Phillips was selected in the third round, No. 70 overall, by the Giants in the 2024 NFL Draft. He\u2019s entering his third year with the team, coming off a 2025 campaign where he played in all 17 games, recorded 66 total tackles, two interceptions and one fumble recovery. <\/p>\n
