A car has rolled into the Derwent River in Hobart today, floating toward the Bellerive Yacht Club before becoming fully submerged.<\/p>\n

No one was inside the Range Rover at the time and it managed to avoid hitting any boats moored nearby.<\/p>\n

Marine and Safety Tasmania issued a notice warning mariners that a 4WD had sunk roughly 100 metres south-south-east of the boat ramp in Kangaroo Bay.<\/p>\n

Mariners were advised to navigate with caution in the area.<\/p>\n

The incident came as parts of southern Tasmania brace for possible seawater flooding on Monday, with abnormally high tides returning to the southern coast.<\/p>\n

The Bureau of Meteorology has warned Monday evening\u2019s high tide is \u201cexpected to be about as high\u201d as the one on June 24 in 2025.<\/p>\n

It has warned that \u201csimilar inundation impacts are possible\u201d.<\/p>\n

That earlier event submerged South Arm Road at Lauderdale, put a jetty on Hobart\u2019s eastern shore underwater and flooded waterfront car parks at Sandy Bay and Margate.<\/p>\n

The Esplanade at Huonville was also closed during that event.<\/p>\n

The bureau said tides are likely to rise well above the normal high tide mark during the Sunday and Monday evening high tides.<\/p>\n

Low-lying coastal areas between Southport and Maria Island are most at risk.<\/p>\n

Hobart, Bruny Island, Huonville, Dover and Port Arthur are among the areas that may be affected.<\/p>\n
