It was a big week for Guy Ritchie<\/a>‘s fans, with the trailer for the long-awaited second season of MobLand<\/a> ignoring the filmmaker’s recent box office woes entirely and putting his name front-and-center. Ritchie’s last few films have struggled commercially, even though they’ve done splendidly after landing on the PVOD market. It seems like most of these projects were given theatrical runs as a marketing strategy to boost awareness ahead of their home-video drop. That’s where Ritchie has a near-impeccable track record. Not only have his recent movies redeemed themselves at home, but his streaming work has stood out as well. In addition to the second season of MobLand, the filmmaker is also working on the second seasons of The Gentlemen<\/a> and Young Sherlock<\/a>. That’s Paramount+, Netflix, and Prime Video taken care of. Meanwhile, his Apple TV offering is demolishing benchmarks of its own. <\/p>\n

Ritchie has directed only one feature film designed as a streaming project from the ground up. It also happens to be his most expensive movie in years, with a reported budget of $180 million. And although the movie didn’t exactly receive positive reviews<\/a> from critics, it has done extraordinarily well on Apple TV. Like many of Ritchie’s recent films, the movie ended with a tease of more to come, but also like many of Ritchie’s recent films, no sequel seems to be in sight.
