A hospital patient has been grabbed by the throat during a violent takedown involving two security guards.<\/p>\n

Disturbing video from May 31 showed the patient walk towards the guards in a surrender position before he was seized, slammed onto a couch and pinned down.<\/p>\n

The incident was captured on CCTV inside Kalgoorlie Health<\/a> Campus, a regional facility in the gold-mining town of Kalgoorlie, about 600km east of Perth<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s very distressing footage,\u201d WA<\/a> Premier Roger Cook said on Monday.<\/p>\n

7NEWS understands the hospital had called a \u201ccode black\u201d after healthcare staff reported an immediate risk to safety.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The question now is not whether the guards have a right to restrain a patient allegedly threatening the safety of others, but whether they used excessive force.<\/p>\n

WA Country Health says the incident is deeply concerning, confirming both men will never again work at WA hospitals.<\/p>\n

The guards have also been stood down by the security contractor\u00a0Advanced Protection Plus.<\/p>\n

Advanced Protection Plus currently holds $62.5 million in state government security contracts across WA hospitals, schools and correctional facilities.<\/p>\n

Cook said \u201cno\u201d when asked if there is a violence issue in WA\u2019s regional hospitals.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want people to feel safe and secure when they go to one of our hospitals,\u201d the premier said.<\/p>\n

WA Police are investigating whether the incident constitutes criminal charges.<\/p>\n
