Prosecutors have dropped four more charges against veteran broadcaster Alan Jones weeks before his indecent assault trial, reducing the number of complainants in the case from eight to six.<\/p>\n

With a months-long hearing due to begin in early August, Sydney’s Downing Centre Local Court is conducting several weeks of pre-trial hearings.<\/p>\n

The 85-year-old pleaded not guilty and denies all wrongdoing, following his arrest in November 2024.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, prosecutors revealed that four indecent assault charges were being withdrawn.<\/p>\n

It brings the total number of charges Mr Jones will defend to 22, the majority of which are indecent assault offences.<\/p>\n

Three of the charges related to a complainant known as “Complainant D” and involved allegations dating back to 2008.<\/p>\n

It was alleged that Mr Jones stroked the complainant on the thigh, patted his bottom and touched his penis, all on the outside of his clothing, at a Kiama restaurant, according to court documents.<\/p>\n

The fourth withdrawn charge related to “Complainant G” and an allegation from over a decade ago that Mr Jones rubbed the complainant’s leg up towards his crotch during a performance at the Sydney Opera House, according to court documents.<\/p>\n

Those allegations have been withdrawn and Complainants D and G are no longer part of the case.<\/p>\n

Judge Glenn Walsh formally dismissed the charges.<\/p>\n

Mr Jones’s defence counsel, Gabrielle Bashir SC, told the court it was the fourth and fifth complainant which the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) had determined there be no further proceedings.<\/p>\n

In June, a single charge of indecent assault in relation to a different complainant was dropped, which similarly meant that complainant was no longer part of the case.<\/p>\n

In September last year, 11 counts of aggravated indecent assault were replaced with lesser offences, and the number of complainants was reduced by two.<\/p>\n
