I feel like I can still get so much better.

“When you’re able to enjoy some success, it’s an addictive feeling and you just want more of it.

“I’ve always said rugby league is my passion. I’ve loved it for as long as I can remember, so it’s always going to be life for me.”

Cleary, like several other high-profile Panthers, is contracted at the foot of the mountains until the end of 2027.

He will be able to negotiate with rival clubs when November 1 hits, although when asked about that possibility on Monday it sounded like Cleary was not even sure it would get that far.

“That’s something I’ll think about over the next couple of weeks,” he said.

Cleary has never publicly confirmed that he would explore his options and instead pointed out earlier in the year that he has never had the opportunity to in his Penrith career.

Panthers fans will be hoping his latest comments are a sign that is not about to change.

Get all the latest NRL news, highlights and analysis delivered straight to your inbox with Fox Sports Sportmail. Sign up now!!!

Cleary backs Daley to stay | 01:11

EELS TARGET STORM CENTRE

Jarome Luai may be the biggest name on the transfer market at the moment, but he is not the only player who could be on the way to the Parramatta Eels.

Instead, the Eels are reportedly also keen on Melbourne centre Jack Howarth.

That is according to Code Sports journalist Brent Read, who said on NRL 360 that the Eels are targeting Howarth as they look to bolster their outside backs stocks.

Howarth is contracted at Melbourne for next season, but last year’s grand finalists are said to have given him permission to sound out his options for 2027.

Both the Perth Bears and PNG Chiefs are rumoured to be interested in Howarth’s services, but it is Parramatta leading the way as the Eels look to make a real splash in the Jason Ryles era.

“They’ve got kids coming up but it also buys them time,” Read said on Monday night, speaking of Parramatta’s interest in a one-year Luai rental.

“On November 1 for 2028, we’re talking Matt Burton, Sam Walker, Ethan Sanders — there’s a handful of halves coming on the market that they can’t get for next year but they can get them for ‘28.

“Jarome buys them time. If their young kids don’t come through, they can go to market.

“I expect Parramatta to make more signings than just Jarome Luai. They’re in the market for outside backs. They’re looking at Jack Howarth if Jack’s allowed to leave Melbourne. I expect them to took at their front row stocks.

“Mitch (Moses) is the key for them. If Mitch can play 20 games for them, they’re top eight contenders regardless of whether they get Jarome or not. But Jarome helps.”

MORE: Benji reveals reason for Luai move, slams ‘absolutely bulls***’ claim

Is signing Luai a mistake for the Eels? | 05:19

KENNY ‘ABSOLUTELY’ WANTS TO STAY PUT AT PENRITH

Meanwhile, Mitch Kenny has reaffirmed his preference is “absolutely” to stay at Penrith as the premiership-winning hooker nears a new extension with the club.

Kenny is one of several high-profile Panthers who are off-contract at the end of next season and had been linked with a potential move to the PNG Chiefs.

But all the noise at this stage is pointing towards Kenny staying put and speaking to reporters on Tuesday, the Panthers hooker reiterated that will be the case if everything goes to plan.

“Absolutely,” Kenny said when asked if he wanted to remain at Penrith.

“I’ve been quite vocal and in my position that my preference is to stay with Penrith and unfortunately you don’t always get what you want, but I’d really like to stay at Penrith and hopefully they’re keen as well and something can be done there.

“I’m sort of leaving that with my agent at the moment, just trying to invest all my time and energy and getting the leg right.

Kenny is nearing a return from a serious leg injury that has sidelined him since Penrith’s win over the Dolphins earlier in the year.

Kenny was considered a State of Origin bolter at the point of his injury and while he is no guarantee to return this week against the Broncos, the 28-year-old said his recovery is going well.

“I’m chomping on the bit to get back, but there’s no point coming back if I’m a little bit underdone,” Kenny added.

“I’m taking it week-by-week. I’ll head back to Penrith today and have some discussions with the physios and see how I’m going.
