ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. \u2013 La Cueva High School graduate Dylan Blomker says his journey is just starting after the Chicago Cubs drafted him in the fifth round.<\/p>\n
Blomker told KOB 4 he learned about an hour before the MLB Draft on Sunday that the Cubs planned to take him, then watched the draft with family and friends.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was pretty crazy. I found out about an hour before the draft I got the news that I was going, I got picked to the Cubs,\u201d Blomker said. \u201cSo I had a little to process it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Blomker said he and his parents knew ahead of time and told one friend so he could record the reaction, while everyone else found out when they heard his name.<\/p>\n
\u201cI let the moment kind of happen organically, me and my parents knew and I told one of my friends so he could record it, but that was it,\u201d Blomker said. \u201cThose were the only people that knew, everyone else was in the dark and then they found out when they heard it.\u201d<\/p>\n
The New Mexico Gatorade baseball player of the year went 159th overall<\/a> on the draft\u2019s second day.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen I heard my name that\u2019s what all went through my mind, went through my head, was all those hours with ABA that I\u2019ve poured into there, and then also all the coaches that have poured everything they had into me to get me there,\u201d Blomker said.<\/p>\n
