A teenager who admitted assaulting an elderly traffic guard<\/a> alleges his victim had made unwanted advances towards his girlfriend and showered her with gifts.<\/p>\n

Traffic warden Colin, 87, suffered bruising, a brain bleed and a broken collarbone when he was pushed to the ground at the end of a morning shift outside Rossmoyne Primary School, in Perth<\/a>\u2019s southern suburbs, on May 19.<\/p>\n

Jatin Pudaruth, 18,\u00a0pleaded guilty to assault in June<\/a> and was due to be sentenced on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

But that was delayed when defence lawyer Mark Andrews put forward what he told the Armadale Magistrates Court<\/a> was \u201cimportant context\u201d.<\/p>\n

The court was told Colin had been interacting with Pudaruth\u2019s girlfriend in his role as a traffic controller for months, as she walked her younger sister to school.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The defence alleges Colin asked for the woman\u2019s number and suggested catching up for coffee.<\/p>\n

They claim she obliged not to seem rude.<\/p>\n

That is when the defence says a barrage of unwanted interactions and messages occurred.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The court was told Colin gave her gifts, including crocheted flowers, blankets, cards and a $100 fuel voucher.<\/p>\n

After the school holidays, the defence alleges Colin hugged her, running his hands down her back and making her feel uncomfortable.<\/p>\n

At one point, when the woman was sick, the defence claims Colin message her to say: \u201cI can\u2019t kiss you then.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Other allegations include Colin following her back to her car, and quizzing the woman\u2019s 10-year-old sister about where she was.<\/p>\n

The court was told Pudaruth tried to resolve the issue respectfully, one week prior to the assault, asking Colin to stop.<\/p>\n

Andrews says Colin became defensive and told Pudaruth: \u201cGo back where you came from.\u201d<\/p>\n

Prosecutors say no report from the girlfriend has been made to police. The defence says an official complaint has been made to the WA Police traffic warden\u2019s unit.<\/p>\n

7NEWS spoke with Colin, who declined to comment on Tuesday\u2019s court proceedings.<\/p>\n

7NEWS is not suggesting any wrongdoing by Colin, just that the allegations were heard in court.<\/p>\n

Pudaruth, who did not comment outside court, will be sentenced on August 12.<\/p>\n
