Washington Wizards<\/a> rookie AJ Dybantsa<\/a> has already set massive expectations for himself, but after a conversation with Dwyane Wade<\/a> before the NBA draft, he has raised that bar even higher.<\/p>\n

Speaking during the NBA Summer League<\/a>, Dybantsa revealed that the Hall of Fame was his ultimate goal. But Wade pushed him to think even bigger.<\/p>\n

\u201cI spoke to Dwyane Wade right before the draft and told him I wanted to be a Hall of Famer. He said that used to be his goal too. But once he was selected to the NBA\u2019s Top 75 team, that became an even bigger moment for him than making the Hall of Fame. Then he told me, \u2018Twenty years from now, the NBA will celebrate its 100th anniversary.\u2019 He said, \u2018You shouldn\u2019t just be aiming to make the Hall of Fame. You should be aiming to make the NBA\u2019s Top 100.\u2019 So that\u2019s my new goal.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s great advice from one of the greatest shooting guards in NBA history.<\/p>\n

Wade knows exactly what it takes to build a legendary career. A three-time NBA champion, 13-time All-Star, and a Finals MVP, he was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2023. But Wade admitted that being inducted into the NBA\u2019s 75th Anniversary Team in 2021 was an even bigger achievement.<\/p>\n

That conversation left a lasting impression on Dybantsa. Instead of just making the Hall of Fame, which is in itself an extremely hard task, the No. 1 overall pick wants to earn a place among the 100 greatest players ever when the NBA unveils its Top 100 team during its centennial celebrations.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s certainly a tough target, but Dybantsa\u2019s professional career couldn\u2019t have started much better.<\/p>\n

The former BYU star made a big statement in his Summer League debut for the Wizards, leading them to a 92-88 win over the Utah Jazz<\/a>. Dybantsa finished with 27 points, seven rebounds, two assists, two steals, and a block, as he tied Blake Griffin for the highest-scoring Summer League debut ever by a No. 1 overall pick<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Although he shot 7-18 from the field and went 0-5 from three-point range, he attacked the rim and found ways to impact the game on both ends of the floor.<\/p>\n

Beyond the scoring, Dybantsa showcased why so many scouts believe he has franchise-player potential. He rebounded with will, defended multiple positions, and looked comfortable handling the ball despite being just 19 years old.<\/p>\n

This all-around part of his game is what makes Wade\u2019s advice so fitting.<\/p>\n

Making the Hall of Fame requires elite consistency over a long period of time. But earning a place in the Top 100 demands even more; it means becoming one of the best players of the generation.<\/p>\n

Dybantsa is still years away from finding out whether he\u2019ll achieve that goal.
