While former Next Star Alex Toohey is still working back from injury, the 22-year-old is with the Golden State Warriors in Las Vegas and taking it all in his stride.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m taking it a day at a time but slowly progressing\u2026 developing and getting back into live play,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s tough to get yourself back up to speed, but I think just kind of taking it as a steady progression and not setting a timeline of when I\u2019m back\u2026 just making sure I\u2019m taking steps in the right direction.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Toohey underwent surgery on his knee in December and is hoping to be back at the beginning of the NBA season.<\/p>\n

After leaving the Sydney Kings in 2025, the NBL\u2019s Next Generation Award winner believes the NBL helped prepare him for the challenges of making the leap to the NBA.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think just being able to be a pro,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou get thrown into the deep end a little bit and you\u2019re playing with some of the best players in the world and there\u2019s not much time to develop.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s kind of if you\u2019re ready, you\u2019re ready.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd that kind of struggle and that cycle of getting beat up at the start, and then obviously Karim how he developed that second year, I think myself as well\u2026 just that progression of \u2018Alright it\u2019s tough,\u2019 but you get used to it and you kind of adapt and understand how the game is played.\u201d<\/p>\n

When it comes to the major difference between adapting to the NBA, Toohey says it\u2019s a simple one.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe speed of play,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe athletes here are on another level, and everyone can jump out of the gym\u2026<\/p>\n

\u201cYou don\u2019t get the time to make decisions like you do in the NBL.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, kind of getting used to making decisions at higher speeds and making the right decisions as well.\u201d<\/p>\n
