The headline on Bleacher Report draws you in, but then fans are hoping the team they follow isn’t on the list.<\/p>\n

The headline: “5 NBA Rosters That Make Absolutely No Sense.” And yeah, the Boston Celtics<\/a> are on the list, put together by Zach Buckley<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Considering the Celtics are going to aim for an NBA title in the season ahead, that’s not an ideal category to find themselves in.<\/p>\n

“It wasn’t supposed to be like this,” Buckley begins his blurb about Boston.<\/p>\n

But in large part because of the Jaylen Brown trade, this is where Boston finds itself.<\/p>\n

“Something happened this summer that convinced them they had to break apart the title-winning tandem of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown,” Buckley writes. “Like, immediately. And\u00a0no matter what\u00a0the market offered in return, apparently.”<\/p>\n

The Celtics’ current roster definitively got worse by going from Brown to Paul George.<\/p>\n

“Without Brown\u2014an All-NBA second-teamer this past season\u2014the Celtics just lowered their ceiling with the 28-year-old Tatum, a four-time All-NBA first-teamer, in the heart of his prime,” Buckley writes.<\/p>\n

The ages on the roster now aren’t conducive to a bright future, either.<\/p>\n

“Where is this all headed?” Buckley wonders. “Not super long-term, because a team following the lead of Tatum, 32-year-old Derrick White and 36-year-old Paul George clearly isn’t thinking in those terms. If the window to win wasn’t bolted shut by this baffling blockbuster, then it’s open right now with incredible urgency to act.”<\/p>\n

Buckley then rattles off some more names that don’t necessarily sound like saviors: Hugo Gonzalez, Baylor Scheierman, Jordan Walsh.<\/p>\n

The Celtics did add Mitchell Robinson, but he’s a flawed player in his own right.<\/p>\n

“Boston backtracked at a time when its best player should be having his best years,” Buckley writes. “And it did so while strengthening a division rival and seeing several Eastern Conference clubs make major splashes. Even with time to process this trade, it remains a big-time puzzler.”<\/p>\n

In this case, it seems fair to say that a large part of the reason the Celtics’ roster doesn’t make sense is that Boston made a move with no obvious logic that sent the franchise in this negative direction in the first place.<\/p>\n
