The World Boxing Council expresses its deepest sorrow over the passing of Jos\u00e9 Legr\u00e1, one of the most iconic figures in boxing history, who leaves behind an unforgettable legacy both inside and outside the ring.<\/p>\n
Born in Baracoa, Cuba, and later becoming a Spanish citizen, Jos\u00e9 Adolfo Legr\u00e1 Utr\u00eda was a shining Star of excellence, perseverance, and sporting greatness. Known to millions of fans as \u201cThe Puma of Baracoa,\u201d he captured the hearts of boxing enthusiasts through his extraordinary talent, charisma, determination, courage and unwavering competitive spirit.<\/p>\n
Legr\u00e1 etched his name into the history of the World Boxing Council by becoming WBC Featherweight World Champion on two occasions. His first reign began in 1968, and he reclaimed the crown in 1972, establishing himself as one of the truly great all time\u00a0 featherweights.<\/p>\n
Throughout his remarkable professional career, he accumulated countless victories and accolades, earning his place as a true legend of international boxing. His impact extended far beyond his achievements in the ring, inspiring generations of fighters through his fabulous life story, discipline, and love for our sport.<\/p>\n
Today, the boxing world says goodbye to an extraordinary champion, but his legacy will forever remain alive in the memories of fans and in the history of the World Boxing Council.<\/p>\n
