{"id":804473,"date":"2026-07-16T18:30:09","date_gmt":"2026-07-16T18:30:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/804473\/"},"modified":"2026-07-16T18:30:09","modified_gmt":"2026-07-16T18:30:09","slug":"watch-basketball-player-sinks-shots-from-over-80-feet-to-break-world-records","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/804473\/","title":{"rendered":"Watch: Basketball player sinks shots from over 80 feet to break world records"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>July 16 (UPI) &#8212; An Egyptian basketball player put his skills to the ultimate test by breaking two Guinness World Records, including one held by a Harlem Globetrotter.<\/p>\n<p>Alie Wessam, 21, took to the gym <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guinnessworldrecords.com\/news\/2026\/7\/basketball-player-breaks-harlem-globetrotters-record-with-incredible-backwards-shot\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">to break the records for the<\/a> farthest basketball hook shot and the farthest basketball shot made backwards in the same day.\n<\/p>\n<p>He managed the hook shot record with a distance of 82 feet and 10 inches, and the backwards shot from a distance of 90 feet and 6 inches.<\/p>\n<p>The backwards shot record was previously held by Harlem Globetrotters star Corey &#8220;Thunder&#8221; Law, who made a shot from 87 feet and 8 inches in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s an incredible feeling. I&#8217;ve watched the Harlem Globetrotters since I was a child, so breaking one of their records is something I never imagined would happen,&#8221; Wessam, who played for the Egyptian National Basketball Team, told Guinness World Records.\n<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I have huge respect for everything they&#8217;ve accomplished, but as a competitor, my goal is always to push myself further.
