Shamrock Rovers<\/a> captain and Cape Verde<\/a> international Pico Lopes<\/a> is to receive a civic welcome home for his \u201cremarkable achievements in football\u201d by Dublin City Council<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The event is to take place on Saturday, July 25th, at 2pm at Eamonn Ceannt Park, Lourdes Celtic FC in Crumlin and will celebrate what the council said is Lopes\u2019s achievements \u201cincluding his role in helping Cape Verde reach the Fifa World Cup<\/a>, while recognising the important contribution of Lourdes Celtic FC and the local community to his development\u201d.<\/p>\n

In a statement, the council added that from \u201cgrassroots football in Dublin<\/a> to captaining one of Ireland\u2019s most successful clubs and representing his country on the international stage,\u201d the footballer is \u201can inspiring example of what can be achieved through talent, dedication and community support\u201d.<\/p>\n

Lopes said he is \u201clooking forward to returning to Lourdes Celtic\u201d and thanking everyone at the club and in the community for their support, \u201cboth throughout my career and during Cabo Verde\u2019s World Cup journey\u201d. <\/p>\n

The 34-year-old from Crumlin continued: \u201cLourdes Celtic gave me my start in football and will always hold a special place in my heart. It means a lot to celebrate these achievements at a grassroots club, because clubs like Lourdes Celtic are the heartbeat of football in Dublin. I would like to thank everyone involved in making this special occasion possible.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lord Mayor of Dublin Daryl Barron said the council is \u201cproud\u201d to welcome Lopes back to the community where his football journey began. <\/p>\n
