Among those who could recall encountering information about the industry, social networking platforms were already one of the five most common sources.

The research also found high levels of uncertainty around areas including water use, biodiversity and greenhouse gas emissions. People who knew more people working in cotton generally rated the industry’s environmental management more positively than those with no personal connection to it.

Cotton Australia Communications Manager Desley Sheedy said the findings reinforced the need to make information about the industry easier to find and understand: “The research showed us that many Australians are uncertain about how cotton is grown today, or simply haven’t encountered much information about the industry at all.

“We wanted to give people the chance to hear directly from growers and see what modern cotton farming looks like. Social media allows us to answer serious questions in a way that feels open, accessible and human, while introducing Australian cotton to audiences who may not otherwise seek out information about the industry.”

The Content Division used those insights to develop a series of short-form videos featuring growers from Queensland’s Darling Downs.

The first creative execution puts farmers in the hot seat to answer the questions people are curious or sceptical about.

Inspired by audience-question formats such as You Can’t Ask That and web search interviews, the videos tackle topics including whether cotton farming runs rivers dry, whether Australian farms are owned by overseas companies, how genetically modified cotton has changed insecticide use and what happens to the rest of the cotton plant after the fibre is harvested.

A second series leans into a popular social trend, with growers being fed internet slang from behind the camera and doing their best to deliver it with a straight face.

The videos pair phrases like “spill the tea”, “no cap” and “main character energy” with facts about Australian ownership, water efficiency and modern farming practices, creating content that feels at home in the feed without losing the substance behind it.

The Content Division Managing Director Brittanie English said the challenge was to turn Cotton Australia’s research into content people would willingly stop and watch: “Cotton Australia had strong research showing where the gaps in public understanding were, but the answer couldn’t be to simply publish more facts.

“We needed to find a way to make those facts entertaining, accessible and credible, which meant putting real growers at the centre of the campaign.

“They brought the knowledge and firsthand experience, along with a warmth and dry humour that made the content far more engaging. From there, we developed two formats that gave us room to answer the questions people were genuinely asking while still making something that felt native to social.”

The grower-led series is complemented by a creator trip developed and managed by The Content Division, which invited lifestyle creators to visit cotton farms in the Darling Downs during picking season.

The creators met growers, toured two working farms and learned about the processes behind Australian cotton before sharing the experience with their own Instagram and TikTok audiences.

The trip focused on creators whose audiences already had an everyday relationship with cotton through fashion, beauty, lifestyle and homewares content. Rather than giving them a rigid campaign script, the brief encouraged them to ask questions, capture what they learned and create educational content that felt natural for their followers.

The campaign is running across Cotton Australia’s Instagram, TikTok and Facebook channels through a mix of organic and paid distribution over an initial 12-week period, with creator content extending its reach into relevant lifestyle audiences.

Register for FREE HERE and receive the Campaign Brief Daily Bulletin and/or the global Best Ads Best of the Week Bulletin. Subscribe to Campaign Brief Magazine.

#More Creative News #No paywalls #No annual membership fees

Subscribe to Portfolio & Reel for current listings of Australian and NZ ad agency and production company leadership and key personnel

July 17 2026, 12:24 pm | BY Ricki Green | No Comments Cotton Australia has partnered with Brisbane…

[4
64,63,44
post-805283","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-australia","tag-au","tag-australia","tag-news
["GET
